Favorite Story

Mine is To Serve the Mistress. It's off my beaten track. A period piece set in ancient Rome, about a young widow who controls a large estate and her literal slaves, particularly two young women who serve her. The fun part was creating the mistress' character and how she psychologically controls her captive lovers.

An odd thing, it's the only stand alone story of mine that didn't receive a single comment.

Forgive me for going with a series: The Bluebells of 1918.

This is my trilogy set against the backdrop of the First World War. An Allied pilot is shot down over Germany, escapes POW camp, and is hidden by a glamorous Belgian MILF. Sparks fly but the Germans are scouring the area in search of him.

A shitload of research went into it and it has done exceedingly well. I’m proud of it.

[My other favorite is my series that is currently being released right now, of course. 😂]
That sounds fuggin awesome. I'll read this once writer's block sets in.

Mine shouldn't be difficult since I don't have very many, but my stories posted here so far are all very different from each other, and I feel like they have different charms. I suppose I'd go with Days of Summer -- it was the first one I posted, it placed in a contest which was pretty wild, and I was happy with the way the sort of light romantic tone came together.

I love my stories, though I rarely reread them once they’re posted. Every now and then, I’ll click through one, and if it gives me that same little tingle I felt while writing it, I know it’s a winner.

Strangely enough, the story I may love the most is also the one that got the least traction.

It’s called Portmanteau: Gone Hollywood, published in June of ’24. It’s a collection of three interwoven stories told in a style I call “portmanteau” — think Pulp Fiction and the way those stories braid together on screen. I’ve written several of these portmanteau-style stories, and some have really taken off. This one didn’t.

The reviews, however, are excellent. Still, not everything lands the way we think it will.

This story is set against the Hollywood studio system and explores the lives of big celebrities, unknown actors, studio executives, and those who’ve walked away from the industry altogether.

It’s a world I know intimately, so these stories are deeply personal with intimacy rooted heavily in experience… including sex on the hood of a stolen McLaren.

If you choose to read it, I can make you three promises:
  1. The story — or rather, the stories — are incredibly entertaining.
  2. This probably should have been published in the Romance category, because at its heart, it’s about three very different relationships, and it’s romantic to the core.
  3. The sex is intense.
Honestly, I should have led with that last part. If you’ve read my work before, you already know my vividly descriptive style — and it’s fully on display here.

Other than my chutzpah novel taking on the Arthurian myth, The Dark Chronicles, I think this might be my personal favourite: Songs of Seduction - Water.

It's only 7300 words long, came from nowhere one Christmas Day on a beach in Australia, written and a single edit in about twelve hours, over a couple of days.

When I sent it to my two beta readers, they both said, "Do you know what you've got here?"

"Is it good?"

"For fucks' sake, EB, can't you see that in your own work?"

I've been working on a big Hollywood novel for almost a year now, and probably will be for another year at the rate I'm going. I don't know if I should read yours for inspiration, or wait, so I don't inadvertently swipe from you.
