I ended up getting the Armor Hot Dog jingle stuck in my head the other day and sadly, I couldn't remember the words and had to Google it.

That got me to thinking. With all the advertising we see in magazines, on TV and on the internet, I think the most memorable and impressionable are the commercials we've seen on TV.

The two links below are just two of many of my favorites.

The first link is my second favorite California Cows commercial. I can't seem to find my favorite one which is the "Marco Polo" commercial.

The second link is for a somewhat local grocery/department store chain, advertising their generic brand over the national brand. (I say somewhat because I think they have chains in Michigan and Ohio, but are headquartered in Michigan.)

There are so many commercials, how many really leave an impression on us? How many will we tell friends or family about or actually NOT flip the channel when it comes on?

What are some of your favorites from past and present?

ETA: Here's a link to the Armor Hot Dog jingle for those interested:

When my family moved back to the States in the late 50s after several TV-less years living in Europe, two commericals had taken over American TV: One for Lestoil (a precursor cleaning product to Mr. Clean--and probably eventually banned for desolving diamonds) and Brylcream (men's hair grease). The jingles were similiar enough that they merged--and I can still run a tune in my mind the starts with the Lestoil jingle and ends with the Brylcream one, with the lyrics being: "Lestoil, Lestoil, a little dab'l do ya."

It's not a commercial per se, but the theme song to the 'Gilligan's Island' TV show has to be the biggest chunk of mental chewing gum of all time.

"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip..."

You're humming it now, aren't'cha? :p

I don't remember the jingle to Lestoil, but I have heard of the product. Isn't it still around? And as far as Brylcream? My grandpa used it so I'm familiar with its tagline (although the jingle escapes me)

Perhaps time for more Googling of commercial ditties?
