I am sick.

I have been coughing and snot headed for over 2 months now. I know, I know--I will see about getting a chest x-ray tomorrow to see if I have pneumonia and hopefully get some Avelox to treat it.

What I am needing is some suggestions for your fave hot drink for thoat pain. I have no hot chocolate mix or milk so that is out. All the herbal tea has been consumed. I am not allowed to drink coffee. We have no Jello and the ramen noodle packets have been discarded in favor of using just the broth.
And anything with alcohol will not be a good idea with the codeine dose I plan to take at 10pm. (really, I have to--i can't lay down without gravity increasing my coughing and when I cough now, it involves my entire body. My son is starting to freak out when I start doing it. I can suppress the small ones or do little half coughs, but the big ones HURT--my ribs ache, my calves spasm and cramp, my salivary glands tighten down and it is like slicing a lemon, and my eyes tear up.)

I just need something else to drink as far as a good suggestion goes. Something hot with flavor that disguises the "texture" of the water here. Help me out here, will ya?

Well aside from the fact that you definitely need a dr....

If you're just wanting to relieve the throat pain, try gargling with warm salt water. It does amazing things for sore throats.

And get to the doctor!
girl, who's pushy tonight, apparently

(In his best Nesus) Have you tried hot lemonade? With honey, perhaps?

I am now drinking hot water with a lid full of lemon juice squeezed in--thanks for the suggestions. I might be willin to get the honey, but honestly, it is in the upper cabinent and I don't feel much like digging it out.

I really just want to just sit here and not move around too much......

(Moving makes me breath harder and that makes me cough more.)

It should help. I use it myself. You can add sugar instead, that's how lemonade is made, afterall.

Bundle up and try to sleep sitting up. Recliners are great for this. It will help with the gravity woes.

Be careful of the full bodied coughing, too. I burst one of my eardrums one time.

warm cider, possibly with some cinnamon

Almost anything to keep your fluids up...

You can also do an eggnog at home, about a cup of warmed up milk in a blender with one egg, half a tsp of vanilla, and a few tablespoons of sugar. Much better than the crap in a carton

Hot lemon water...you can add honey or sugar to it too...and try sleeping in a more upright position...Hope you feel better soon!!!
:D

Chicken broth. Hot lemonade. Hot apple cider.

If you've got one, get a humidifier out and hibernate near it.

Are you ready for a guggle muggle???

Into a large mug add boiling water, a slice of lemon studded with cloves, lemon juice and honey to taste AND at least 2-3 ounces of good whiskey or rum. Trust me, you'll either feel better or you won't care that you're feeling poorly.

Tomorrow you really should get some Green Tea and a hunk of fresh ginger..... grate a bit of ginger into the tea and add honey and lemon to it. This is soothing, but will help you recover. Green Tea is excellent for ridding the body of toxins. Ginger and lemon is soothing to the throat, and the honey is just for flavor. Also pick up a bag of Ricola cough drops. The horehound in them is wonderful for this sort of thing.

I know, I have pneumonia and have been in bed for weeks now because I can't take anything for it yet.

Good luck.

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions and concern, expecially to you, Patient1. I appreciate your attention.

I work in a clinic and asked the only nurse there today if I could see her doc.. All that was needed was for the paperwork to be printed out. Our receptionist refused to do it. (There has been serious hostility from her towards me from the get-go. She is a psych case and I feel sorry for her.) I went and asked her (in my very hoarse and quiet voice) why she did not bother with the print out. Seh screamed back at me that I she forgot and that I should not be causeing a scene in front of patients. I thanked her for her "professionalsm". I was so tired and worn out from the little bit of work I had done plus that confrontation that I just told the nurse to forget it and went and put my chart back where it was and clocked out and left.

The weakness comes and goes. It will get better. I am just trying to hydrate myself to the max and relax. I will be fine before too long. For now, I get bursts of energy but then have to rest for a while. (After leaving the office, I sat in my truck and rested for about an hour before driving home. Then rested more before coming in. But once in, I felt fine for a while--but then back to the sofa to lay for about 4 hours or so and now up again. Getting tired again. Just takes a while.)

On a good note, I felt good enough to cook supper so my son and I made grilled cheese sandwiches on the waffle-grill. But... we had no bread so I made pancakes. It was definately a creative thing. Yummy though. Might do it again in a pinch.

'Bout time for some more magic cough syrup.

(Days like this make me soooo glad that I am not living in a different time period as someone's slave.)

I just drink fresh virgin blood and it heals me right up!

That's easy since I was sick since last Friday until Christmas night. And this works for me all of the time:

Hot Cocoa w/Hershey Kiss melted inside (made with milk and hot chocolate mix; not that hot water crap)

Hot Vernor's ginger ale is what I always drink. I do hope you feel better soon, BlondGirl.

I have hot tea n' honey when I have a sore throat, but
since you are out of that....I can't suggest much more
because everyone else suggested ideas already....I do
urge you to get to a doctor ASAP.......that's not good to
be sick for 2 months like that......get better soon!!!

Hot Lemonade or a hot lemon drink usually does it...... of course your clothes will be sticking to you because of all the perspiration after drinking them but they do work.

But it is better if you see a doctor.... being like that for 2 months is not good in the least.
