What do you think about the complete reversal of the United States constitution and bill of rights, and the establishment of a very undemocratic military dictatorship?
Continuity of government (COG) programs established under the Reagan administration and then later revised after 9/11 by the Bush administration, essentially call for exactly what I wrote in the first paragraph to take place. Events which could trigger these COG programs to be activated include nuclear war, the total breakdown of society, or a terrorist attack involving a weapon of mass destruction, specifically a nuclear bomb.
The constitution would be thrown out the window and the entire continental United States would be turned into a giant military camp/oppressive Orwellian police state. Not to mention that the rest of the free world could follow suit in a post-WMD-terrorism world - global totalitarianism and a permanent end to any and all human freedom and prosperity, an endless global dystopia and hell on Earth.
Dissenting against this new government is a crime punishable by execution. Large protests or political demonstrations could be met by a hail of bullets (without warning) fired by the army Tiananmen Square-style. Furthermore, there are plans to arrest and detain extremely large masses of hundreds of thousands/millions of citizens believed to be subversive to the state at hundreds of secret detention camps run by FEMA located throughout the country. It has been rumored that there are gas chambers and crematoriums at these facilities.

The federal government as we know it today would be completely dissolved and the US would be segregated into ten militarized "FEMA districts," each of which having it's own government and president. With the new national capital located in Denver Colorado, and not in Washington D.C.
