After they ate, Keth armored up and waited for Al'ika to get ready.

Al'ika did the same thing and smiled. "Let's go Keth," she said.

Keth strolled into the barracks and yelled, "OK, greenies, listen up!"

"OI! Wake up, rookies! Come on, get your lazy asses up!" She barked with him.

Keth dragged over a board so Al'ika could give the lecture and produced the dagger, passing it around.

Al'ika handed the dagger to one of the recruits. "What's coming around is a dagger. What can you tell me about it?" she asked.

"It's terrible," one girl in the back said. "Who in their right mind would carry it?"

 

[celestialdragon]

"Very good. Can we think of anyone who would carry such a poorly made weapon?" She asked.

 

[bindingeagle]

"Lower goblins or bandits?" asked someone else.

 

[celestialdragon]

"Even a lower goblin wouldn't carry this, but you are right about bandits," Al'ika nodded. "So, what form of bandits? Isep's bandits in the mountains would rather die than carry this. Or, more importantly, were they hired or were they acting on their own?"

"How do we find out?"

 

[celestialdragon]

"Think. Use your brains," Al'ika urged them. "Think. Would this be the weapon of a hired bandit, in a hurry to complete a job? Or a bandit who's bad with weapons?"

 

[bindingeagle]

"Either one is entirely possible, unless they want us to underestimate them," The group was really on it.

 

[celestialdragon]

"That is a very valid point. Now, who would hire bandits, in that case?" Al'ika asked. "We all know bandits are unreliable."

"Lord Ashglow uses a lot of arrow bait,"

 

[celestialdragon]

"Alright, good guess, Ashglow. Anyone else?" she asked.

 

[bindingeagle]

No one else really had any good suggestions.

 

[celestialdragon]

"So, now, since we have an idea of what we MAY be up against, what precautions should we take?" Al'ika asked.

"Extra guard at night, and regular patrols out?"

 

[celestialdragon]

"Sounds good to me, make it so. Any other ideas?"

 

[bindingeagle]

"We could set traps out in the woods," one of the trappers' kids said.

 

[celestialdragon]

"Good idea. Who all here is a trapper kid?" Al'ika asked. "And how many here are druids or arcane magic users?"

 

[bindingeagle]

A couple trappers volunteered, but there was only one arcane user, and not a very skilled one.

 

[celestialdragon]

"Alright, trappers, teach a couple other people basic traps. Magic user, please come see me," Al'ika ordered. "The rest of you, keep those weapons sharp."

The one caster came over to her. "What do you need?"
