Her companions rushed out of the woods. Keth grabbed her and pulled her to the ground, holding her tightly and crying a little. "Keth think he lost you,' he said."

Issak and Jep stood guard over the two reunited lovers for almost a half hour, letting them calm each other. Suddenly, a noise came from the passage as Flish stumbled out, badly beaten. Jep immediately took him to the ground and began punching him in he face as hard as he could. "I'll make sure yuo die this time, you son of a bitch!" he yelled.

"Jep!" Al'ika tore herself from Keth and flung to Jep and Flish, trying to tear him. "He saved me, look at him, STOP!!!!!" She said, finally getting into Jep's line of fire. "Please."

Flish lay there, panting on the ground, and beginning to bleed. His face was a huge bruise, and he spat blood out onto the ground. "I think, just maybe, I had this one coming," he said. "Take me back so I can see if Fletcher is in a hanging mood."

Issak held her and stroked her hair. "We'll take him back. He should get leniency for fighting Ashglow for you."

Issak let her cry for a while, until he gently said, "Keth should have bound Flish's wounds. We need to make a stretcher and move."

Al'ika nodded, then mutely asked him to carry him. She didn't trust herself to walk, whether it be from fatigue, pain, or fear, or a combination she didn't know.

Issak shifted her to piggyback as Keth and Jep carried Flish back to town. As people saw who it was, they became angry and began throwing things at him.

Al'ika wanted to cry out, to protect him, but a look from Flish on the stretcher and thinking about what he said made her go silent, and she silently cried into Issak's shoulder.

issak finally led the procession to Fletcher's house and opened the door for Keth and Jep to go in. He sat Al'ika down and then stood guard outside. Fletcher stormed in once ha had been informed and said, "I hope you have a very good explanation for this, Flish, I'm half tempted to give you to the mob."

Al'ika curled up in Keth's arms, but she silently pleaded with Flish, using her eyes, to tell Mayor Fletcher what had happened. She was tear filled, and afraid, and she squeezed Keth's hand.

Flish coughed and winced as he told the story, begging for forgiveness, and ending with, "I really don't expect it though."

Al'ika didn't say anything, she was crying as she heard his story. She did love him once, yes, and care for him. She hated seeing anyone in pain, even if it meant she was in pain. She snuggled into Keth's arms.

Al'ika nodded. "We all know that Flish wasn't exactly kind to me when I left him," she said quietly. "He acted a lot of times under Ashglow's orders- and even that's murky, since Flish is Ashglow's son. But when he was going to turn me over, he risked his life so I could come home to my family. Yes, he tortured me. But he took care of me afterwards, making sure I was clean, that I was fed well. He still loves me, and he was torn. Ashglow literally screamed at him from a far, and he was crying most of the time. I feel like he is sorry for what he has done, and I forgive him, but it's. . . . it's going to be a while before I venture forth." She curled back up in Keth's arms, remembering the rats most of all.

"Ok, I understand," Fletcher said. "Take him to Hallowbrook's, but I want him under guard at all times. When he's well, maybe you can do something about him yourself."

Al'ika nodded and she looked up at Keth. "Go home now?" she asked quietly. Her body was shaking with hidden tears, tears she didn't want anyone but him to see.

Al'ika curled up and she shook with the tears, as if waiting for permission to let them free. She watched Keth's every move.
