Issak was right, nothing was moving out here like it normally would. Even the small woodland critters she had seen the previous evening were missing. The breeze rustled the leaves around her, making it difficult to hear anyone approaching.

Al'ika sat and studied everything, her eyes darting everywhere, her hand resting on her sword. She smelled a faint taint of magic, and it wasn't hers or Issak's. She slid off the rock she was perched on into a crouch, her eyes wary.

A whisper came over the breeze. It was an enchanting male voice, which said, "Come, my lady, there is much I could show you." She had never heard the voice before, but it seemed to come in on the breeze away from her camp.

Al'ika heard the voice and shook her head, trying to clear her mind of it. She slowly inched back toward camp, her eyes wary. Maybe she was sleep deprived. She checked the progress of the moon. She should wake Jep up. . .

The voice whispered again, "Come if you seek a deeper understanding of magic. Let your companions rest."

Al'ika stopped. She was always trying to improve upon her magic, it was her duty as a warrior mage. She paused, her hand resting on her sword. She was about halfway to Jep's sleeping area. Her eyes scanned for the hidden voice.

"Who are you?" she finally asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Al'ika listened, and she slightly shook her head. "I'm on a mission, I can't leave now," she whispered softly. Quietly, softly, she sent a wave of humid air to Issak's tent, hoping to wake him up. She was terrified.

"I will depart come morning," he said. "And your quest has already been a huge success. Ashglow's men have started to lose the town of Gwyre to subversion."

"I am but a humble blue wizard," the voice said. "Druids cannot learn from me, for we are both arcane and he is not."

"How can I trust you?" Al'ika challenged. "If you know of me, and you know what I'm thinking, you must certainly know what I've gone through. And why I'm hesitant to trust you. How do I know you're not Ashglow pulling a trick on me?"

"You don't," said the voice, "But i like a sense of adventure and a healthy amount of risk taking in my apprentices, so do as you will."

Al'ika thought for a few moments. She didn't want to abandon the mission, take the risk of being captured again, go through the torture again. . . This time, if she went back to Ashglow's dungeons, there would be no Keth to protect her and help free her. . .

But she yearned to learn more. She lost her teacher years ago, and Issak was a druid. Their magics were completely different.

"Would I be back by morning?" she asked. "A personal mission compels me to leave with my companions."

Al'ika left a spiritual imprint, telling everyone that'd she be back by morning, imagined Rivven Glades, and teleported there.

Upon arriving, she looked around, her long red hair flowing in the breeze. Her eyes scanned the area.

"I'm here. Now where are you?" she asked.

Al'ika appeared in front of a stone house carved into the hillside. The fire was on inside and the door slid open as she approached.

Al'ika entered, one hand on her sword, and looked around the simple dwelling, allowing the fire to warm her up and for her to become acclimated to her surroundings.

The inside had simple furnishings and a middle aged man sat by the fire with a bottle of mulled wine and two full glasses. He was just beginning to decline, but was still reasonably fit for his age. "Welcome to my home," he said.

The man placed a thick book on the table and bade Al'ika sit. "I haven't poisoned it, you know," he said, passing a glass. "Isep said you were headed this way and I decided to see if you were worth teaching my knowledge to."

"She ran into me on the way back from your little exploit," he said. He looked her over, appraisingly. "I don't think her description of you did you justice."

"Scarlet hair. green penetrating eyes, fuckable body," he said. "Perfect for a new apprentice, especially blue magic."
