"When he's done scouting. He'll do a thorough job," Al'ika said, smiling. "Patience, Keth. This is very much how I did my raid on Ashglow's castle. And damn was I impatient."

Al'ika smiled and squeezed his hand. "Why don't you go spend time with your kids?" she said. "I'm sure they want to talk to their dad. I know I would if I were them."

Keth left and spent time sparring and helping with chores. Remarkably, he felt better as he returned.

Al'ika was up and moving when he returned, wearing her shift again. She was busy cooking that rabbit stew, slicing up carrots and potatoes for it. "Hello," she said, smiling.

Al'ika laughed and smiled. "Yes, yes it does," she said. "Rabbit's roasting a little bit before I plop it in the stew."

Keth stirred the broth while Al'ika turned the rabbits. "Bek want to go with us, but Keth say he guard town," Keth said. "Too dangerous out there."

Al'ika smiled and returned to the vegetables. "Good idea. Although Bek's pretty useful in a fight," she said.

"Not lose him to that castle as well," Keth said firmly. "I go and come back, and we all live."

Al'ika smiled and nodded. "Of course," she said. She checked the rabbits again. "Rabbits are done." She slid them off the spit and started chopping them up.

Keth slice the cheese and bread, and soon dinner was ready. As they sat down to eat, Keth smiled. "Enjoy," he said, offering her the bread basket.

Keth finished hungrily and washed the dishes. He looked at her and asked, "What humans use in pipes?"

"Different herbs and such," Al'ika said. "I don't smoke often." She fished out her pipe, a gift from Edioz. "Just when I'm home." She found her favorite herb to smoke and placed it in the pipe and lit up. "Mmm. . . Would you like to try?" she asked.

"Sure," Keth said, taking a puff and finding it better than goblin stuff. "Feel funny after smoke?"

"Sometimes, this herb won't," Al'ika said, shrugging. She took a long inhale and breathed out a smoke ring.

"It very good," Keth said. Suddenly, wild barking came from outside. Keth sprang up and opened the door, and dragged in Jorr, who was bleeding and missing an ear. He put him on the table.

Al'ika appraised the situation. "Keth, the vial," she said, helping him get Jorr on the table. "Jorr, what happened?" she asked, stroking the old ranger's face. She began cutting off his shirt.

As Keth got the potion, Jorr tried to sit up on the table. "Found a scouting party, they found me. Killed a few, but it looks like the leader wanted a trophy." he pointed to his ear. "Got one of my dogs, but I managed to get out with the information we need."

Al'ika gently pressed him back down. "Relax Jorr," she said. Taking the vial from Keth, she placed a drop on Jorr's tongue. "Swallow," she said. "Keth, get a bowl of stew ready for him."

Keth prepared the treatment and food as Jorr made a disgusted face when he took the potion. "Xur is going to go on a power trip in two days. Unfortunately, he might know we know and that comes with its own risks. Let me know what you want to do and I'll go with it."

Al'ika nodded. "Will do, old friend," she said. She inspected his ear and grabbed some bandages, gently wrapping it around the top of his head. "Let me know if this works," she said. She helped him sit up and handed him the bowl of stew with a slice of bread. "Eat."
