"That's her," he said, turning to the orc. "Which makes you Keth. Thank you for what you've both done."

Al'ika watched the two of them carefully. "Yes, that's Keth," she said.

"I hope things are going to change now that you're here," he said, "They took my daughter away. I hope she's safe."

Al'ika looked at her friends. "We need to go down there, tonight," she said firmly.

"OK," said Flish. We'll go. What was her name?" the man whispered, "Fate."

Al'ika sat down in front of the mayor. "Fate is safe, in my village, about a week away," she told him softly. "I saved her, and she is safe. My best friend is looking after her, and I assure you, on my honor, she is safe and recovering well."

"Tha man looked relieved. "Norro Winston," he said, introducing himself. He took Alexis aside and looked furtively over at Flish. "He looks uncomfortably familiar. Why is he here?"

"Flish is on a redemption mission," Al'ika explained softly. "His mind was not his own, for Ashglow had control of his mind. That control is gone, and now he wants to redeem himself. However, my brother Jep has been looking after your daughter's needs."

Norro looked over at the rowdy, disheveled man. "How has he been looking after her?" he asked, glowering at him.

Al'ika chuckled and rubbed the older man's back. "Jep, I think you should talk to him," she said. "Don't be shy." Her eyes warned him to be on his very best behavior.

Jep slowly and carefully sat down and began talking with the old man. After about a half hour, he walked back over and whispered, "Keep him away from sheep shears, please."

"Sheep shears? Jep what did you do? Did you anger him?" Al'ika hissed.

"I'm interested in his daughter, that's what I did. I was nice, I swear."

 

[celestialdragon]

Al'ika groaned. "Your father would've tanned your hide," she growled. "Keep being nice and polite to him, it's the way to get Fate's hand in marriage and you know it."

"Ok," he said. "I can do that. Other than that, It's time for me and Flish to go scouting." They took up their arms and left the cave.

Al'ika kept her eyes on Norro, Issak, and Keth, but kept herself apart from the group.

Keth came over. "Why you all alone?" he asked.

 

[celestialdragon]

Al'ika shrugged. "People have been making me nervous lately. If I keep my distance and watch, then I feel safer. Does that make sense?" She looked up at her lover.

"I guess," he said. "You ready for fight?"

"Always am," Al'ika said. She gave him a warm smile.

"OK," he said. "Good to know pretty human has Keth's back."

 

[celestialdragon]

Al'ika stood up and got on tiptoe to kiss him. "I think it's better to know that Keth has pretty human's back," she said softly.

"And your front," he said in a rare moment of sexual humor.

Al'ika blushed a little but she smiled and nodded. "Yes, and my front," she said.
