Fans of Incest Stories, what do incest stories have that keep you coming back? What is so enticing about them to you?

To be clear, I enjoy incest stories as much as the next web denizen, but it's hard to put into words WHY I like them so much, considering I feel like the idea of actual real life incest is either unfortunate (they didn't know and that sucks), unsettling (someone was clearly taken advantage of), or repulsive (I enjoy reading about family fun, I do not want to have that kind of fun with my own family).

So! What are y'all's thoughts on the matter? Why incest?

My answer may be a bit non-representative as incest isn't my favorite category, but I like stories about teenagers discovering sex and a significant subset of incest stories include that. I also have never wanted to have "that kind of fun" with my own family, so I tend to prefer scenarios that are very different from my IRL family to make suspension of disbelief easier. My favorite scenarios are single mom who got pregnant at 16 but hasn't had sex in years sees her son becoming a man, or close in age siblings who have always been best friends becoming lovers.

I particularly enjoy brother-sister stories. I have written one and am working on more. I enjoy the loving nature of the sibling stories I have read. While not (usually) romantic, they do love one another and the exploration of new passion is attractive to me.

I also enjoy some of the mom/son stories I have read, as long as there is respect and familial love.

While not true incest stories, I also enjoy "mature" stories between an older woman and a younger man. Again, I'm not looking for romance, but friendship, love, respect, and of course, passion.

I have a friend who I play with on the phone. He loves to role play.Something similar to mother son incest.

We will "reminisce" about different times we've been together and things that have happened.

I wouldn't mind her playing some of them with him in real life.
We have been together, but find it more exciting on the phone

There are a lot of incest stories that bore me, but the ones I like usually have the common element of characters discovering or developing their interest unexpectedly and, sooner or later, damning the torpedoes and steaming ahead full. They usually begin reluctantly or hesitantly, with introspection and doubt, and gradually decide or accept that they like it enough to defy moral or societal expectations.
But to be fair, that's the kind of story I tend to look for in pretty much any category. I guess I find subversiveness sexy. 🤷‍♀️

Another word I was searching for regarding my thoughts on sibling incest is camaraderie. If not at the beginning, by the end they are a team.

I'd say I'm on the low end of interest in incest. Mostly I'm somewhere between indifferent and mildly annoyed about it, because it's friggin' everywhere, man.

But, I've written an incest story, and while I don't think that's anywhere close to my best work, I did find it interesting to engage with.

Thinking back on it, I think I was inspired by an overlong TY video I listened to picking apart a book series I'm probably never going to read (Flowers In the Attic). Which IS a transfixing concept to me. Not exactly because of the incest, but because of the way sexuality seems to seep through the cracks of tragic/abusive circumstances, no matter how much active repression is levied against it. I think that transcends taboo lines, to a great extent. And incest isn't the thing I'm most personally interested in, but I do find the scenario of a brother and sister finding comfort in each other when there is literally no other option pretty compelling, both emotionally and sexually. So that's more or less the scenario I re-created when I took a crack at incest. Of course it's not nearly as dark or well-formed a concept as Flowers in the Attic, nor is that book really erotica.

But that was my gateway to engaging with the kink authentically, I guess. As an edge case of people finding love and comfort in each other, because it's all they have. I find that thread compelling, regardless of what kinks are involved.

Hmmm incest... the idea that a certain level of love shared between family members that will always be there, is enhanced though more intimate means.

Also partly the taboo nature, or that you always have someone at home if the date/gf doesn't put out.

Everyone (almost) I know from that period is dead and has been for many years.

The one or two that aren't, I haven't had contact with in over 30 years, are aged and likely in poor health.

What bits I put in pixels are based solely on fantasy and could never possibly have happened.

A few weeks ago, while doing a web search for character inspiration, I ran across a picture that stopped me in my tracks. The face and hair are uncannily, eerily too close to one I knew. I kept the picture and still stare at it. I have to study it closely and dig into my memory of what she looked like when I last saw her in the late 1980s. I never saw the rest of her as shown in the picture, but it has wildly fueled my imagination as it is fantastically astounding! If I had even imagined she looked like this picture, I would have had a real problem.

I think the basic attraction is the tension common to all taboo sex topics. My most popular taboo stories combine that tension with affection and long-term commitment.

And usually not covered is the freedom to go back to the relationship, but also that it fades out to normal familial relationships after it isn't needed.

Example may be; Mom becomes son's lover after he lost his wife. This goes for a while, possibly a few years, then mom hooks him up with her friend or he finds someone else, then mom and his relationship drops to a normal (yet a bit more intimate) relationship that is on the back burner, choosing to pretend it never happened.

This is something that can't exist in any other relationship, except maybe long term children growing up FWB maybe.

For me, I started with vanilla erotica - girl meets a guy, girl is attracted to guy, girl has sex with guy. It was great and first, but it got boring. Very mundane and ho-hum. There are no emotional stakes in the story.

Then I came across incest stories. Not mundane and ho-hum. Usually, major emotional stakes in the story. I'm always curious why two family members would cross the line into being lovers. I/T stories gave me a thrill that vanilla erotica no longer gave me.

It's just a kink. I moved from vanilla erotica to I/T. Other people move to Anal or BDSM or E/V or Group Sex. But it's a very popular kink.

Comes down to the forbidden fruit. Having sex with the person society tells you that you shouldn't, even spicier if its falling in love with that person. Love has no limits is a saying I've used in a couple of I/T stories and that includes family.

As far as writing it, I think because incest erotica style (as in fun consensual fantasy not abuse) there is an inherent absurdity to it, and a lot of porn, both visual and written, just go with that. "Oh, I saw my brother's cock or mom's tits, I have to have them now!'

Because of that there's this attitude that I/T is a pure stroke category and low hanging fruit from lazy authors. Of course there is some truth to that when talking the one handed read variety, but also the ones who say that either never write it or suck at it, so those grapes be sour.

But what the naysayers don't understand, is that's why the category presents a challenge if you want to write a more serious story. To take something implausible and inject enough depth and reality into it to get the reader to buy in enough to say "I could see this happening" isn't easy to pull off and I enjoy the authors that can do it.

I also have no interest in having that kind of fun with my own family, but I don't not get the attraction. There is a sense of familiarity and comfort that can turn into sexual feelings under some circumstances. Between siblings or cousins that grew up together there may be a sense of camaraderie or shared curiosities. A child may associate their parents with unconditional love or security. I can see these feelings turning into more. The taboo nature of the relationship might be an extra reason for a specific kind of person it. If the story is well written there is a lot to explore here that you don't get in other categories.

For whatever reason it wasn't telling me that people were responding, so I was beginning to be afraid that no one was interested in this! These are all great responses so far, thank you!

It's the taboo. Unlike, say, nonconsent stories, the erotic connection can be totally normal and consensual and romantic, except for that one forbidden barrier, and that's what makes it so deliciously erotic.
