Famous Writers Quirks.

Some of the odd ways writers find inspiration.

LOL, what nutcases.

Everyone knows this is the only way to write ;)

(This is how I write, LOL. If you look closely you can read one of my werewolf stories on there.)

Takes one to know one? :p

Myself, I write best at night, with no one else awake in the house. I keep the TV on in the living room but barely listen to it; if it turns itself off (which it will do every hour after midnight if I don't touch the remote), the sudden silence bothers me.

Every hour or so -- dependent on whether or not I'm on a roll -- I get up and walk around. In the living room, I have a vintage Royal typewriter made during the 1920s, fully functional, and it even has ribbons. Sometimes, if I'm stuck, I'll randomly hit a few keys and listen to the clacking sounds the arms make as they snap up. More often than not, after a few moments of this, I've usually worked through whatever bump in the road was bothering me.

Interesting. I write best in the morning... first thing in the morning... Sometimes, I'll even wake up an extra hour before the rest of the family, but I'm doing it for the same reason - the house is quiet. As for sound in the background? The near constant drone of NPR's Morning Edition.

At night, I write best if I'm drinking. Really drinking. Serious drinking. And sometimes, I write until I'm too drunk to write anymore. I don't do a lot of writing at night, especially if I'm home (my irl job puts me on the road regularly).

I once had a typewriter with a word processer built in that had a lag between the time you pressed a key and when it printed. If I remember, it was like a 40 character memory that allowed the typist to spell check before it printed. The lag between when I pressed the button and it made a noise was really annoying. But if I started writing and kept writing without stopping, it would balance out. I still tend to write like that.
