Fae/Faeries and such fantasies - are there guidelines?

So after reading a few (ok - all) of xxxecil 's mesmerizing Faeophobia contributions, I took it upon myself to concoct a story in a similar vein. It's taken much longer than anticipated but I've finally assembled a draft. Granted, it still needs a fair amount of hancking and slashing to make it a winner, but for me, the biggest problem when writing is getting from start to finish and amassing all points in between.

Anyway - I'd just as soon post it when done, but I got to thinking - how seriously do people take their Fae? I'n a brief preusal of Fae content, I've read on the types of Fae (Earth, water, etc...) as well as differences in being winged and whatnot. There is a homeworld of the Fae (Ti Nor Long?) and a deep mythology behind them.

My problem is my story doesn't consider those aspects at all. It's more of a fanfic based off what xxxecil has written. For those who are familiar with Fae mythology, would you be turned-off from a story that didn't follow the mythology very well?

FWIW - I do plan to run a copy by xxxecil before posting, because it is his stories that inspired it, and I wouldn't feel comfortable posting it unless I had his blessing.

The site itself overall has few guidelines, so as long as you stay within one category or the other - non human or sci/fantsy- you wil be fine that way. What you may find is that some "purists" might vote low scores or send negative feedback because you don't fit their personal criteria.

Having a couple of successful writers in that genre review the story oughts help.

Using too many words, that's what I was getting at. I'm curious as to what the purists would think. I suppose then I'll just have to solicit it to a few here on the boards who identify with the Fae and hope that at least one can give me some insight as to how the story rubs off on them.

Thanks.

my experience with purists is that you will find each has their own views....please some, piss off others.
