After a passing mention about satin in the "what do you bring" thread;

This one is for the fabric hoarders and fondlers. The sewers and stitchers searching for that elusive scrap.

Favourite pieces in your collection, things you've made, tips on the best suppliers or stitching, something gorgeous you want or have seen.

I want http://www.dantonleather.com/BaroqCopPOP.html for my next corset.

(sorry, my ability to post pics is, at best, lacking)

And I'm searching for the perfect fabric to make a matching skirt. So far, not much luck.

I have a sewing problem needing troubleshooting. I need to buy thread that will be ultra strong for sewing on buttons on clothes for boys and men. The men in my life are hard on their clothes and my rayon threads have been no match. Which thread is strongest for manly buttons? Suspender buttons have been thwarting me lately. They pop off at random.

I've never had a problem with buttons. But if you need strong thread- fishing line. Strong as hell, and it's transparent so it goes with everything.

I used to resew buttons on with fishing fillament.
No way in hell were they coming off again!
My boys were tough on buttons, so I had to find something that would work.

It might sound weird and tacky, but I use thin gauge fishing line for any of my heavy duty work clothes.

So far, it seems to hold up great.

ETA : I type slow so Candi beat me to it... :D

Brilliant! And I have a tackle box full of that.

Unanimous. Fishing line it is. Thanks, people.

Is it just me, or are zippers not made as well these days?
The little end bit that stops the moving bit seems to fail/come off more easily. And then if you don't get the toggle thingy back on exactly right, the zip is all wonky!
I have been avoiding buying anything with a zip for a while now.

Now here's a thread I can get behind! :D

Okay I'm having trouble making a leotard. It's made of bathing suit fabric, and already done, but when the kid does her flips, the thread snaps. Was my tension too tight? Is there a thread with some stretch to it? I wouldn't even know how to sew with stretchy thread if there was one.

Btw...the corset fabric is beautiful.

That is gorgeous!
I am envious, as here where I live there's not a whole lot of fabric choices.
I have to buy on the net, and then by the time it gets here I'm over the excitement and it ends up sitting in a box for ages before I get all OCD'y and ship it off to the local craft group.

Bathing suit material isn't tough enough. Too much give. Try a dance supplies store and asking for leotard fabric. It can be a bit pricey here, but it's worth it.

I'm making a poodle skirt his week for Halloween, with a cat instead of a poodle. I'm using felt, is there anything I should know about sewing with felt?

Only that it can lint up your machine.
I learned that the hard way.

Thank you!

I have two fabric stores and all they had was that, I don't have a dance supply store. I was just trying a cheaper way to make some since they are like $30.00 on up, once shipping is included.

If I ever get to the big city, I'll check around for that.

I got nothing, never had much to do with felt.

But the capoodle skirt sounds awesome and I want one!!

I like where this thread is going

Your pun made me giggle.

Aw, you didn't kill it...

It'll come unstitched all by itself.

Plus I forgot to log out on my way to the train.

Elastic thread is your friend.
