"f I have to create stories...then that’s what I’m going to." - Republican candidate for Vice-President

Yeah, even if it promotes racism, provokes white nationalist marches, leads to injury / death, or leads to bomb threats and closures of public buildings and the accompanying public panic.

😑

🤬

Might as well post this here as well…

Springfield, Ohio, Mayor Rob Rue issued an emergency proclamation Thursday allowing the city to address public safety concerns more quickly following false claims from former President Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), that Haitian immigrants in the city are eating residents’ pets.

“Ensuring the safety of Springfield’s residents is our top priority,” Rue said in a statement reported by Spectrum News. “We are addressing these threats with the seriousness they warrant and are taking immediate steps to ensure the security of both our community and our employees. Our commitment to preventing harm is unwavering.”

vance and trump have deliberately stoked threats of violence against people and property in Springfield, with more than 30 bomb-threats causing disruption and fear... trump's even claiming he'll go there, and you know if he does it'll bring even more haters with him.

Residents, Haitian or not, are all feeling the effects of their reckless lies and fear is abundant in a town that was doing great.

I wonder if the emergency powers would allow the mayor (or dewine) to refuse to host a trump visit?

Just curious, how do you or anyone know where the bomb threats come from? I dont, you dont, who does? No one!

i don't, though there are reports they have come from outside the country... having said that, they didn't exist until trump and vance spread the lies and hate

In his op-ed for the Times titled, "I'm the Governor of Ohio. I Don't Recognize the Springfield That Trump and Vance Describe," DeWine wrote, "Springfield has a rich history of providing refuge for the oppressed and being a place of opportunity. As a stop on the Underground Railroad, the Gammon House, which still stands, was a safe haven for escaped slaves seeking freedom. It is disappointing to me that Springfield has become the epicenter of vitriol over America's immigration policy, because it has long been a community of great diversity."

The governor added: "As a supporter of former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance, I am saddened by how they and others continue to repeat claims that lack evidence and disparage the legal migrants living in Springfield. This rhetoric hurts the city and its people, and it hurts those who have spent their lives there."

naturally, he went on to bash President Biden and VP Harris, but this is the strongest wording he's used about trump and vance's inflammatory comments/posts

he should have said he's outraged at the harm their rhetoric has created in the community of Springfield and they need to shut the fuck up right after admitting it was all bullshit... but that ain't about to happen

Springfield sighing a collective sigh after trump decides he might not visit their town after all:

At a rally in Long Island on September 18, Trump said that he planned to visit Springfield in the next two weeks.
However, two sources familiar with the matter have said Trump is not expected to visit the city in the near future.

It comes as Ohio's Republican Governor Mike DeWine warned that a visit from Trump would "strain" relations with the local community and slammed the former president for what he called "hurtful" rhetoric.

slimy vance, on the other hand, while not saying he'll go there himself has openly asked Americans to go there themselves to see what's really happening and (possibly) verify the stories about the pet-eating Haitians.

it would be bad with trump visiting, but perhaps vance's offer (incitement) to have people go there is infinitely more insidious imo.

Yeah, no, don't make up stories. If the truth is your friend, don't traffic in lies. If you do traffic in lies, this means the truth is your foe.

I get a lot of likes and DMs liking them, so to each their own. I don't care. I like to tell little stories of my own, but unlike Vance, I don't pretend that they're true.

A Haitian nonprofit has filed criminal charges against former President Donald Trump and his vice presidential pick, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), over false claims they spread against immigrants in Springfield, Ohio.

On Tuesday, the Haitian Bridge Alliance - a nonprofit based in San Diego, California - took advantage of an Ohio law allowing private citizens to "file criminal charges" and "requires [the] Court to either issue arrest warrants or refer the matter to the prosecuting attorney for investigation."

The filing charges Trump and Vance with several criminal offenses, including disrupting public services, committing telecommunications harassment, and aggravating menacing.

"If anyone else had done what they have done, to the devastating effect experienced in Springfield, police and prosecutors would have filed charges by now," the filing reads. "Trump and Vance have knowingly spread a false and dangerous narrative by claiming that Springfield, Ohio's Haitian community is criminally killing and eating neighbors' dogs and cats, and killing and eating geese. They accused Springfield's Haitians of bearing deadly disease. They repeated such lies during the presidential debate, at campaign rallies, during interviews on national television, and on social media."
without looking it up, i am already certain that no other president/presidential candidate has ever had so many legal cases filed against them in the history of the USA. That should tell everyone something....

He should endorse Harris.
never gonna happen

his response to them both has been very mild to date, and seems like an old-school republican who might see the flaws in their candidate but would rather not vote for anyone rather than endorse a democrat.

i could be wrong but i don't see it... not with the outcome of this election so close.

old(er) white guy illegally kills geese in Springfield, Ohio

After a report came in about an old white guy shooting geese, a golf course owner says she allowed several individuals to hunt geese on her property, and it turns out this guy was an employee of hers.

The guy shot two and disposed of them in the weeds. He claims he believed the golf course had the necessary nuisance permits and wanted rid of the geese... they didn't have permits; neither did he.

So he was 'cited for hunting without an Ohio wetlands stamp, a fourth-degree misdemeanor that carries a maximum 30-day jail term or $250 in fines.'

So, what's amiss about this story? If he was a 'hunter', that would imply he wanted the meat, right? He shot and then disposed of the geese in the weeds, didn't take them home to eat or sell. He was her employee, and had been riding a mower just prior to shooting the birds. The course owner should not have allowed (or encouraged, or ORDERED) employees to 'hunt' the birds without the permits. It really reads to me like she wanted the course near the water kept clean, green and clear of goose-crap and told the workers to get rid of the birds. Perhaps she could also blame 'those pesky illegal Haitians' if anyone came asking about missing animals. The employee would automatically assume she had the permits, and would do as asked if they wanted to stay in their jobs. Yet here he is, stuck with a fine or jail time and a blot on his record. Doesn't seem fair, even if his employer pays his fine.

so, I'm not a hunter, but doesn't that whole scenario seem off to y'all?

even if (hypothetically) the man hated geese for making his job harder, maybe a job he takes great pride in, and it was his idea to shoot them, she should never have told them they could.

Yes. I don't believe an experienced hunter would just take her word for it that they had the permits. He'd have known how much trouble he'd get in if she didn't, and would want to make sure she really did.
