Extreme higiene

Ok.

I need tips on feminine higiene on extreme conditions.

Think stress, over 38C/110F, no access to water, and men all around...

Any ideas?

Feminine hygiene as in nasty period stuff?

Pads made of either strips of cotton or fur (rabbit fur works well, and is fairly absorbent). They can be washed in stale urine after it turns to ammonia. They'll be clean, sanitised, and the ammonia smell wears off quickly after they're dried. All you need is a private corner and a lidded container for the urine.

I meant less extreme but, that was cool, thanks!

You SAID extreme... LOL...

Sorry, actually had to do that one a time or two. It was... um... interesting.

Did you mean extreme as in something disposable that could be discretely changed and discarded? Fold a paper towel into an envelope, fold up some toilet paper, and pack it full. Absorbant, easy to slip into and out of underwear, and discrete. They do need to be changed often, though.

Mooncup or its american alter-ego, The Keeper.

This is great - a small cup that you insert, you only need to empty it at the beginning and end of the day, you can rinse it or you can just wipe it with toilet paper. As long as you'd be able to sterilise it before you have to use it again, you'll be fine!

ps- I swear by this and I know a few other women I've recommended it to on this board are also fans now...

Wet wipes. Lots and lots of wet wipes. Also, No Rinse body wash, sold in camping and sporting goods stores.

I suppose I should just be grateful that there is not an hemorrhoid problem to be discussed.

At least until I am finished with lunch.

They also make the diva cup, I'm not sure of the differences, but the cheapest place to buy is www.luckyvitamin.com and there is a yahoo chat group devoted to them called moonkeeperdivas (for all three brands). I'm told you can pee on them to clean them though I haven't tried.

If you're not thinking menstrual then the old "pocket cum rag" aka single serving baby wipe is discreet, but they tend to dry out easily in high heat.

One shouldn't be entirely beguiled by marketing. Whilst hygiene might be a problem under extreme conditions, marketing ensures you are aware of a the potential for a problem... which may not exist. Anyone who traveled Europe in the 70's would be aware of the need for personal deodorants (underarm), certain European countries did not adopt deodorants until sometime after their use became fashionable. Personally, I am significantly more sensitive, in an undesirable way, to commercial deodorants, and some perfumes, than I am to natural body smells. And I have never yet encountered a woman whose smell could be in any way described as repellent; some odours make one aware of the 'state of play' in an informative and friendly manner whether it be the product of exertion, stress, heat, or the 'phase of the moon'.

Unless someone has taken you aside and complained, I wouldn't sweat the problem.

Yes, thanks to V, i'm now a convert. This has to be the most amazing invention ever. Easy to use and well worth the money. :)

Saw similar situations to this in the Army.

Most of the women I knew, carried around a few zip-loc baggies for the storage of used feminine hygiene products. (most double bagged) And then would use some sort of wet-wipe to clean up their hands after changing them. But other than that, all a woman needs is a discreet or concealed spot to pull her pants down and go potty. Depending on the expected duration of the time in an extreme environment... or expected length of time between showers... about the only thing a woman would do differently is attempt to bathe a touch more frequently for the sake of sanitation.

For the most part though, men and women would bathe in much the same manner in an extreme environment.... take a little drinking water into the bottom of a helmet, use that to get a washcloth (or semi-clean sock if that was all that was available) wet, and then cleanse the underarms, groin, and neck areas.

I have talked to a few women back-packers who have done similar things, except that was usually whenever they would come to a stream.... so water was plentiful and available.

I will focus on another area of hygiene beyond what has already been discussed.

My first concerns are related to cleanliness and smell (given the extreme heat conditions you described). Keeping the feminine area cool and dry is essential. Deciding to wear no undergarments is the first and best choice for this reason. Also, keep the pubic region trimmed down (if not entirely shaven) to ensure better smell/taste. Regular powdering and moistened towels will be necessary to be managed in discreet locations out of the men's vision. Also, using essential oils ensures a beautiful smell (and some have a nice flavor also). Sandalwood oil is wonderful and is also an aphrodisiac. :rose:

OK, how do you get twice a day? I've been using a Diva cup for about 7 years, and have ALWAYS had to empty it at least once every two hours for the first couple of days, or it will overflow.

Or am I just smeggin cursed?

Well... even when I have a heavy (for me) flow I only need to do it twice a day at most... sorry.

Mind you, I haven't used the Mooncup without being on the pill - maybe that makes a difference?

Meh... Possibly. It -is- supposed to make your flow lighter. All the pill did for me was cause spotting, irregularity of the cycle, and three pregnancies.

Well it's definitely helped with my PMT symptoms, but I'm going to come off it soon. I've been on it for about 3 years and it's started to give me the ab dabs being run by chemicals. Anyway, it takes a while to get out of your system, doesn't it, so maybe we'll be ready to try for babies by then. It'll be weird going back to my old cycle... 31 days long, 2 day period - but heavy and painful. Yay

ps - Maharat - were you referring to periods or to cleanliness?

Cool.

I went on a bicycle today without underwear, and it was a lot easier. Only when I got home I discovered though, that the entire underpart of my bike shorts is sort of transparent, for ventilation.

So much for not wanting to stand out

I will follow up on the essential oil tip.

The pill turns me into a psycho bitch, so I have sworn it off.

All is relevant, thanks all for the tips.

I am taking flight lessons and it will soon be 40C here. The plane is small and some lessons are after a full work day...does not take long for me to notice I am getting past the sell by date...

I have yet to find more than one or two women that that could out-smell me. And they were convinced that one, bathing more than once a week was bad and two, that deoderant was a sign of the devil.

I have noticed in my long and lustful life that women tend to smell themselves long before anyone else does. Except those few women who for some reason don't notice any smell what so ever.

My wife being one of those who happens to be alert to her own odor long, long before I would ever notice.

I on the other hand will have a distinct odor after eight hours, but I only have to keep my pants zipped so other don't notice.
