Holy shit I feel stupid! And to think, I pride myself on being able to spot various "fakes" on the net.

I knew something was going on, though, when this "couple" from Upstate NY was posting on Florida, North Dakota, and Illinois personal ads (some where the guy is actually looking for LOVE and not a "pen pal" or quick fuck).

Many do it for the simple fact that they are thrilled by the lie they created. I've had several friends burned on the net because they thought they were developing a relationship with someone to find out later it was a cyber fantasy for the other person. Some may be looking for a "that moment fix", but there are many who like drawn out, elaborate lies.

After all, if Karen*Bill were a real couple from Lake Placid, NY why would they post to a young man's personal ad from IL who is looking for LOVE and a relationship and not cyber? Why would they post to a FL or ND ad?

Your're right, I guess it's the thrill of posting and pretending that turns some people on. Your dead right about "fakes" and people experimenting, the Net is rampant with people trying out a new gender, or just playing games.
