Day 40 something and the excuses keep coming. After saying again and again American steel would be used in projects during his administration, including pipelines, after he said in his speech to Congress, "And I’ve issued a new directive that new American pipelines be made with American steel.", after saying this and that, Trump is weaseling out of using American steel for the Keystone XL pipeline because, "Since [Keystone] is already currently under construction ... it was hard to go back. Everything moving forward would be all under that executive order."

Mind you, a large portion of Keystone is not yet complete.

In addition, the order, done up at the last second in true chaotic Trump fashion, directs the Secretary of Commerce to draft Buy American" rules for pipeline construction "to the maximum extent possible and to the extent permitted by law."

Funny thing, the Canadian firm TransCanada, the folks building the pipeline, did not comment whether it would move ahead with the pipeline if it were required to use American-made steel.

As a side note, and of course completely unrelated to this, the ArcelorMittal plant down the road from me is laying off dozens of people because of lack of orders.
