Gear Descriptions:
Lament and Requiem
Both Lament and Requiem are Soulsteel reaper daiklaves, obviously forged by the same hand. They are both dressed in white jade, with their guards and pommels seemingly cast entirely of the magical stone. The blades bear inscriptions, a series of small glyphs done in Starmetal, different on each sword, and different on each side of the sword. If the glyphs are copied down and laid side by side, it becomes clear that they are musical notes, but the rest of the song is missing. When the blades are struck, they clash just as metal would, though the sound does seem slightly more...musical than it should.

Threnody
Threnody is The Scarlet Star's armor. Woven from the silk of Essence Spiders, the material is supple as a maiden and soft as an angel's kiss, yet will turn aside the blows of a lintha pirate or arrows sped by a Haltan Ranger. The armor consists of long gloves and thigh-high stockings, black with scarlet trim, and a tightly-fitted tunic that has long, flowing cloths hanging from the front and back, similar to a loincloth, save that the pieces are longer and not joined, hanging freely from the waist of the armor. Threnody is also the namesake of the armor, as well as its title. When it is rubbed, the sliding rustle of the armor becomes music, with its tempo, melody, and volume changed by the speed and force of the movement against it.

Skin-Mount Amulet
A soulsteel hearthstone setting with elaborate filigree that has been grafted to the small of The Scarlet Star's back, just above her hips. At first glance, it could be an elaborate tattoo or body piercing, but it contains the Abode of Ravens' Hearthstone, and grants additional motes equal to twice the rating of the stone. The Scarlet Star assumes she got it when she was being tortured by the Fair folk, for some unknown reason, but is not sure.

Essence Wing Tattoos
Elaborate tattoos in the shape of stylized wings, but done entirely out of thin lines of soulsteel. The tattoos take up most of The Scarlet Star's shoulderblades, and are quite fetching, in an intriguing, scary sort of way. When essence is channeled through them, they glow with carmine light, and essence the color of heart's blood or rose petals emanate from her back, forming feathered wings that seem dyed in blood and occasionally shimmer with the essence they are created from. Like the skin-mount amulet, she doesn't know exactly where they came from.

The Abode of Ravens
The Abode of Ravens is Scarlet's home, and also the sight of her death. It was here that the Raksha took her, ravished her, tortured her, and killed her. It was here that she was born again, going from Nevenka Tisendra to The Scarlet Star, and starting her tenure as a deathknight by slaughtering or chasing off every fair folk in the manse.
The Manse itself is a single, high tower composed entirely of black glass with iron fittings, that rivals Chiaroscuro's Towers in its toughness and quality. Most of the tower is opaque, but some sections glow with a violet light when the sun hits them just right. The tower is perched on a solitary spire of rock on the eastern edge of the Marukan Mountains, but few know of its existence, for it conceals itself well with geomancy and essence. The tower is extremely capable of defending itself, and one living there could survive for a long time on the surrounding area, if one could survive the perils of the Shadowland that the Abode exudes.
The Abode of Ravens' Hearthstone sets Scarlet's appearance to 7 as long as it is equipped. While she has the stone socketed, she is the rival of even the gods or the Raksha for sheer beauty.

Well, I believe that's everything. The deathknight is ready for action.

Gear and Advantage Descriptions
Passion in Daylight
Triumphant Mantis' Daiklave, Passion in Daylight, is a standard Orichalcum Daiklave, with a four-foot blade as wide as her palm. The blade is decorated with intricate engravings glorifying the Unconquered Sun on one side, and depicting the joys and wonders of sexual freedom on the other. It was carried first by Vaznia Yozibane in the early days of the first deliberative, before her descent into madness.

Skin of the Sun-Kissed
Triumphant Mantis' armor is the Skin of the Sun-Kissed, a gloriously light chain shirt made of Orichalcum links that hugs Triumphant Mantis' sleek form like a second skin.

Collar of Dawn's Cleansing Light
This heavy, ornate collar is a minor Orichalcum artifact common in the first age, and in addition to being fetching, keeps the wearer clean no matter whatthe situation, unless the wearer wills it.

Silken Temple
This small, bronze and silk temple is Triumphant Mantis' manse. Located in her home town, it is a house of pleasure and refinement, where one can come to tend equally to the needs of the spirit or the body.

Silken Temple Acolytes
These are the acolytes who tend, minister, and service the temple and its faithful. They venerate the Unconquered Sun and Triumphant Mantis as the bearer of his word and his love. Their adoration provides Triumphant Mantis with 1 willpower per day and 2 motes of essence per hour.

So, Scarlet has made her debut. No dice were rolled as she was killing extras, and starts at 19 dice per attack without charms, getting 6 attacks per round. Dice will have to be used in the fight with the Cataphractoi, as they sling a whopping 30 dice if they're going full speed in melee.

Mechanical illustration: The charm Scarlet activated on the roof was Ravening mouth of melee, which converts damage into stolen motes on a successful melee attack. Her attacks are so brutal because she's using Savage Shade Style with Elegant Bloodletting art, which means each extra success on an attack counts three times for damage. Finally, the charm that allowed her to not get hit from behind was Uncanny Impulse Evasion, which costs nothing but causes her to accrue a point of resonance each time its used.

And what a debut it is! Very impressive stuff. I'd say "those poor pirates" but every one of them deserved it. The bastards.

For everyone else joining in, other than Tor, they're basically going to get an unexpected attack on a target of their choice. So no natural DV, though they can use magic to give them DV or soak or what have you.

I figure we'll do all the dice rolling and mechanical stuff here, so as not to clutter up the IC with it and leave the descriptions and action flowing smoothly. Once I get a few more things statted out, we'll kick it into high gear and get the raksha and the rest of the Exalts involved.

I'm excited for this! It's going to be good, my friends. Maybe not for our characters but it's all going to look incredible. ;)

Gear and Advantage Descriptions

Windblade
Class Personal Transport
A flying artifact that is kept as a small chevron of metal about the size of a belt buckle. By spending Essence, it unfolds into a semi-circular shaped "flying wing" large enough for one person to stand on; with special foot placement to create a gravity specific to it to prevent the user from falling during acrobatic maneuvers. Capable of handling a rider and another 200 lbs. and reaching a top speed of 100mph

Essence Security Screen
A quartet of poles which when set up properly and having Essence committed to them create an invisible fence around an area no larger than 30 yards in circumference. The barrier is not strong but is tangible and if broken or moved over, sounds an alarm.

Heavenly Ecstasy Aid
An artifact that Gunesh was embarrassed about originally, discovered in the same cache as the rest of his artifacts and Tri's. It is a double ended Green Jade phallus that allows the attuner to physically feel stimuli from it's use.

The actions described in my last post are the surprise round, now we will do Join Battles and go from there. I will also figure out the results of the surprise attacks once the last bit of stating is complete. But please post, people! Get some more awesome going on!

Gunesh's Join Battle - 2 successes
Triumphant Mantis' JB - 4 successes (on five dice, go Tri!)
Torasin's JB - 2 successes
Cunning Starfire's JB - 3 successes

I'll roll for the antagonists shortly. Now, since we're all playing in this we should take a vote of methodology. I can roll everyone's actions for them and post them here as Option 1. Option 2 would be I handle my characters and NPCs (unless another writer has taken that NPC, which is an option, just ask me about it) while the players roll for their own characters and post the results here.

What's your preference, people?

I am generally lothe to surrender my rolls to someone else. It makes them do more work and I can't rely on my somewhat fickle dice luck.

About the Raksha: They have a static PDV of 12 and static DDV of 8. Their PDV can be upgraded to 14 for 5m. They throw a base of 26 dice in melee, which can be upgraded to 27 for 1m, 29 for 5m, or 30 for 6m. They have no perfect defenses. Their soak is 14L/17B/0A.

Ivory Dawn is finally done! Woo!

And I vote for you doin' all the rollin. But that may be because I'm lazy *shrug*

Surprising Reach of Justice is a chain Daiklave
a 3-foot long blade attached to a chain that is 10 feet long. She uses it mostly as a last resort, with the chain curled around her hands to decrease the likelihood of being disarmed.

Discreet Essence Armor
A set of bracelets and anklets that are made from orichalcum, intricately worked into filigree. When activated, an aura of shimmering essence envelops her, adding to her soaks.

Gossamer Thread of Destiny
This orichalcum weapon looks like a shining ribbon of the golden material attached to a sword's hilt. But it can be used as a ribbon to accent dance moves, or martial arts moves, and is the form weapon for Graceful Dancer's Judgement Style.

The Scarlet Star's JB - 4 successes.

The Raksha's successes:
Leader - 5
Cataphract 1 - 5
Cataphract 2 - 5
Cataphract 3 - 3
Cataphract 4 - 6!
Cataphract 5 - 3

Ivory Dawn will be triggering Waiting for the Music (spending one mote of peripheral to add 2 dice to her JB roll). She will also spend 1wp to add the same number of dice to Tri's roll.

Ivory Dawn's JB: 6!

Or, as I like to consider it, fuck you, cataphract #4, I rolled some 10s!

Edit!
Ivory Dawn used the 1st Martial Arts Excellency! Result - 7 Successes. According to Arm, they Fair Folk are surprised, which means I'm up by 7.

16L dice for damage - Cataphract #4 has a soak of 14L, which means I roll my Essence as damage instead. 1 Level of Lethal damage inflicted!

The resolution of Gunesh and Triumphant Mantis' attacks is as follows, both were attacking the same target;

Gunesh uses his Burning Judgment Bold Combo

15 dice to hit; gets 5 successes
Opponent's DV is 0 against unexpected attack
5 extra successes + 19L base damage = 24L
24L - 14L soak = 10 dice of damage
10 dice rolled; 4L levels inflicted.

Triumphant Mantis makes an attack with Passion in Daylight, supplemented with Hungry Tiger Technique.

12 dice to hit; gets 7 successes
Opponent's DV is 0 against unexpected attack
7 extra successes x2 + 8L base damage = 22L
22L - 14L soak = 8 dice of damage
8 dice rolled; 3L levels inflicted.

Cunning Starfire attacked a separate target, activating Deadly Beastman Transformation and an additional 3 motes to activate Claws of the Silver Moon with it.

16 dice to hit; gets 9 successes
Opponent's DV is 0 against unexpected attack
9 extra successes + 12L = 21L
21L-14L soak = 7 dice of damage
7 dice rolled; 3L levels inflicted

7L on the Raksha 1. Scratch one Raksha.
3L on Raksha 6. Raksha 6 has 4 levels remaining, and a -0 penalty.
?L on Raksha 4. Will roll for Ivory dawn's hit/damage unless either of you want to do it.

Elder Raksha unholds her action after Ivory Dawn goes.

I'll post in the morning. Computer's on the fritz, and I'm on my phone.

I figured I should post the stats for Tor before doing the combat.

Here's my plan, btw, I/we roll out the fight here or via IM to go through the whole shebang, whoever wins or loses, what have you. Once we've done all the rolling and math and posted in OOC, an IC post goes up that translates it into the actual action and keeps it flowing. Thoughts?

Hope
A massive two handed scythe with a blade a yard long and a foot thick where it joins the haft; opposed by a shorter straight blade two feet in length. Forged from gossamer and the hopes of the Abyssal Exalt Scarlet Star, Hope gleams silver shot through with ribbons of all imaginable colors when the blade moves unless bathed in Tor's anima in which case it shines like burnished gold. The haft stands six feet long with two handles that jut out, one near the base and another three quarters of the way up; though the space in between is textured and sculpted to serve as a grip as well with a bare socket below the upper handle.

Perfect Storied Armor
A set of silver articulated plate including boots and gauntlets that fits Tor perfectly; precisely designed to impossible detail and scale allowing for ultimate freedom of movement while providing the protection of thick steel plates. The trim and filigree tells the tale of Tor's deeds and adventures in magnificently written Old Realm characters; currently there is very little of it.

Coming Soon

I'm fine with it either way. I say we do each duel separately, though. I'll be on YIM starting at about 11:00 am, my time. Or you can go ahead and throw out your first action. The Raksha, being arrogant and skilled, is going to hold his action and elect to let you make the first move, so JB is largely irrelevant here.

Oh, as I look at Tor, I should probably point out that Peony Blossom Attack got a pretty substantial revision in The Dawn Solution, which is Ink Monkeys volumes 31-35, I believe. Just want to make sure you caught it, so your combo works the way you think it does.

Bring it on!

That's the version I have with him, the Ink Monkeys Revision. His use of it independently and in the combo is as a room sweeper. Clear out all the little stuff at once and make a statement, lol.

Obviously that's not going to work here.

I'm going out to do my Xmas shopping today, for I am a fool and left it to this late in the season, so I may not be back right around the time Kinkerhell will be. So I'll put Tor's first action here and then we'll continue on YIM for the rest of the duel after that.

First thing is that while everyone's been talking, he's taken the time to use Strength Increasing Exercise. His first action is going to be largely a feint, he wants the raksha to get overconfident, so he's going to rush in for a simple sword strike, no Charms (saving that for the raksha's attack) or enhancements on it.

His goal is to be up close and bring the shield into play for one of it's oft-overlooked uses; hiding what you're doing behind it by blocking the enemy's sight of you. It's his next action where he's going to try to really make something happen.

Melee 5 + Specialty 2 + Dex 3 + 2 Accuracy for a Straight Sword: 12 dice to hit.

He rolls 6 successes; a pretty clear miss.

The Raksha will parry and unhold his action, trying for a three attack flurry, setting his starting attack pool to 15. Barring DV enhancement on Tor's part (and if my math is good), Tor's current DDV is 3 (Dex 3, Dodge 2, Essence 3 = 8/2 = 4 -1 for the attack). His PDV is 6 (Dex 3, Melee 7(5+Spec) = 10/2 = 5, -1 for the attack = 4, +2 for the shield).

1st: 2,5,1,9,7,7,1,8,10,6,7,7,1,10,3 - 10 Successes - Hit with 4
2nd: 4,5,9,10,9,7,4,1,9,5,2,7,7,9 - 9 Successes - Hit with 4 (-1 Onslaught)
3rd: 8,7,3,9,2,5,7,10,3,1,1,4,6 - 6 Successes Hit with 2 (-2 Onslaught)

Currently, the damage stands at 14 (6 STR+4 Weapon+4 extra) for the first two strikes and 12 for the third, less any soak. Tor being a dawn caste and all, the Raksha will probably roll minimum damage (3) for all three attacks.

Would Tor like to use the 1st Melee excellency to raise his PDV?

Ivory Dawn got 2 successes to bandage Tor a bit. So yay for stopping some bleeding!

Just for notes: Hope is in all ways an Orichalcum Grimscythe, for now, save that it also functions as a Cup Grace of 3, allows the bearer to channel Scarlet's compassion (using her virtue channels), and allows them to compel her to acts of compassion or dispassion, which she may only resist by spending willpower.

Tor's storied armor is perfect gossamer articulated plate, granting 11L/11B soak, and having a fatigue and mobility penalty of 0. It will also tell his story as he forges his destiny and accomplishes great deeds.

Tor has been completely pimped and I feel almost ashamed of it, lol. But it'll be interesting to see all the ramifications of this. :) Particularly from Cunning Starfire...

Cat fight?

I am confident of my ability to fight even a high-essence Lunar and win, if I'm at full essence. Otherwise...well, I can probably still do it, but its no longer a certainty.

But I don't think Tor would let Cunning Starfire attack me, anyway.

No, he would most certainly interfere. I don't think she'll actually do that though. Perhaps some sort of non-lethal test. Wrestling! In the traditional style, of course.

:D

So, in the spirit of getting her point across, I have rolled performance for Scarlet with her little "Oh, look at how TERRIFYING I am" thing she's got going in my last post. She's not intending to be super scary, hence the lack of extra dice and charms, but to set a baseline:

[10,10,7,6,6,1,1,4,8] = 6 successes (at Appearance 7, which should be -3 to everyone's MDV except CS, who's stats aren't listed.)

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3309252/

Sooooo, yeah. How 'bout that? Feel free to ignore it for the sake of RP, this is purely an "if you wanted numbers" kind of thing.

Last edited:
CS would have a penalty of 2 based on relative Appearance.

I think I'll probably post her stats later today as she's with the group now but I'll note that she's not meant to be part of the regular cast; more of a special guest star who shows up to either mess with the characters' lives or be handy in a crisis.

As a note, I may have played with Scarlet's Resonance effect a bit to make things a little wilder/more interesting. I hope that is acceptable. Please let me know if I should refrain from doing so in the future.
