Apparently, on average, we break one law a day each here in the UK...

Article here

So... have you broken the law recently? Do you feel bad about it or jut consider the majority of laws too petty to abide by?

Me personally, I find that even if I break the tiniest rule I will always get caught, so I make certain to abide by rules and laws, because i'm terrified that i will get caught.

I make sure I break the speed limit at least once per trip.

I don't abide by laws that are there for the sake of being there. For instance (driving again), no right on red signs. If I don't see any traffic coming from the left, I will make a right on red. The sign is there for the sake of being there, not for safety, so I ignore it.

Some of those aren't "Laws", they are the recommendations of the Highway Code which are advisory. Some of the Highway Code is statements of law but not everything in it is backed by legislation.

Smoking in a public place? Depends on the definition of "public place". Unless covered by local byelaws or transport regulations it is permissible to smoke in a public place that is not an enclosed building.

The problem with so many of these peripheral UK laws is that they are beyond the capacity of the police to enforce. It is pointless to enact legislation that is generally unenforceable such as littering.

PS. Locally it is still against the local byelaws for men and women to bathe on the same beach after 7am and even when bathing separately men and women must wear the so-called "university costume" with 3 inch long arms and legs and for women a skirt no shorter than six inches above the knee. We also have an approved Nudist beach which breaks those byelaws every time it is used.

i often walk over red traffic lights - though not as often as i used to. my bike has no lights (though i rarely use it after dark). etc.

i don't drive though, so half of those crimes i don't commit...

Laws exist for the convenience of the government. Laws make it easier to tag you with a crime if the government is annoyed with you.
