I used a personal ad once, a phone service personal ad. Actually met up twice with people from it. One guy was really cool, although unfortunately I wasn't physically attracted to him. Another guy was nice looking, but turned out to be a dick.

I think they can be good for meeting people if you are having trouble finding places to meet people.

I got a reply once, from a very good looking (from the pic I received, anyway) admitted tennis playing, long legged, foreign college co-ed, with long blonde hair.

We sent emials back and forth for a bit. I thought it was going to turn out to be something, but then, what I think happened was the room mate of this person intercepted one email from me and told me the co-ed was actually a "pre op" trans-sexual. Yes, she did play tennis, though.

Now, I'm very open minded, but I wasn't looking for someone who had the same plumbing as I do. And, it might have been my narrow minded, outlook, but I just didn't see the emotional side of me being able to handle it, let alone the possible whisker burn.

All kidding aside, more than anything I think it was the fact that I had been lied to, and a lie like that...you wonder what's coming next.

I simply sent an email asking if the room mate was telling me the truth. I never heard anything else, one way or the other. To this day, I don't know if there actually was a room mate, if there really was a pre op trans-sexual, or was it all maybe one person, with a really mixed up double personality?

On a side note, I did receive one picture of a rather nice somebody holding a tennis racket, so I did get something out of it.

Both, but I prefer to be the one responding to an ad though, it is hard to attract the kind of person you want with the wording of your ad.

I have had good experiences with them, especially since I am too painfully scared to approach a woman that I find sexy in person, it is easier to use email, chat or the phone to break the ice so I can have the courage to unleash my inner kinkmeister when the time is right.

A couple of times, ads helped me to meet ladies that ended up gaining the title of girlfriend, and once a lady who I was with for four years.

I had ads posted seemingly all over the place at one time. Anywhere I could get something for free. Had a lot of responses from outright jerks who obviously weren't truly reading what I had written. That was, oh, about 2001. I pulled all the ads in 2002, but had forgot about one. That being SexyAds - just never got much response from it. (I had reworded the ad out of frustration and had 10 "must haves" in order for me to respond. It worked in weeding out a lot of undesirables!)

In Feb 2003 a man sent me an email asking about the ad I still had. Turned out, we had exchanged emails in early 2002, but for some reason I dropped the ball. Probably during the time I was becoming disillusioned! Anyway, I felt badly that I had never gotten back to him a year earlier, and agreed to meet him.

It has been almost 2 years (March of next year), and we are still going strong. Initially, he wasn't my "type", but I soon learned I had my "type" all wrong, as this man is considerate, a gentleman, knows how to treat a lady, and sexy. Whoda thunk it? Not sure if marriage is in the works or not, and I'm not one to move in with some one without benefit of marriage, but we are doing fine. Actually, am planning a trip to Spain together next autumn!

So, yeah, ads can work, but they take a lot of work. There are some real weirdos out there!
