That of Aliens (the second one)? The monster comes out of the well, and is killed. Then the mother of the monster comes out (actually through an elevator). I wonder if that's intentional.

Ever read "The Legacy of Heorot" and "Beowulf's Children"? Sci-fi writers often take off on legacy classics.

Be forewarned - they are not PC from a "living peacefully with nature" POV - but then Pournelle has never really been PC - he does take off on classics though (in this case Grendels), as many sci-fi writers do.
