I read about a psychologist who ran experiments with chimps. If a chimp could solve a puzzle, he/she got a reward of raisins. The female would eat the raisins. The male would swap the raisins with a female for sex.

No, because the penguins are smarter than the apes. They lure the males away from the jealous mates, have fun, get their "rocks" and go back to the egg. Unlike the apes ladies who put it out to get more meat, they penguins put it out for fun, nesting rocks and to figure out who they're going to go for next time around.

We didn't descend from apes. We merely have a common ancestor. Subtle, but important, difference.

(of course, if you go far back enough we have common ancestors with pretty much every animal...)

Precisely. If we go back far enough then yes, we are descended from an ape-creature. There is a point where we branch off from apes, but ultimately, both we and apes are from a creature that we would call "ape" rather than anything else.

So I stand by my statement. And the difference is not important at all.
