So my grand-daughter scholar comes over today, and we talk about books a little. She starts high school in August, and had no idea who Mark Twain is. Never heard the name till now. She heard of Shakespeare but never read anything of his, ditto Charles Dickens.

What she knows is all the Niggaz and Faggotz whove come along lately.

When I was at schools many, many years ago the syllabus in England for Literature stopped about 1900. For History the period we studied stopped at the declarations of war in 1914. For French, again the Literature stopped at 1900.

In Australia for the same year, English Lit went up to the 1940s including George Orwell, but Chaucer, Shakespeare, Dickens were still included. History went to the defeat of Japan in 1945. French Literature included Jean Cocteau as well as Beaumarchais, Racine, Moliere.

I am constantly surprised at the shallowness of modern teaching of Literature.

But the best students still dig and discover for themselves.

They don't know Twain because he was "racist" Just like all the old authors were because they wrote back in a day when racism was rampant.

PC not only has ruined today's society, but has now gotten to the point where it is trying to force people to believe entire portions of history never existed and are trying to limit what kids today can learn.

Sure. The problem is, of course, our culture before Lyndon Johnson must become ACCESS DENIED files, or the cat leaps outta the bag. I bought a collection of dirty jokes from the 1890s-1910s period, and they're filthy. The archivist got most of the jokes from old women! But it appears that Americans weren't the prudes we think they were, tho official censure was as bad as our present PC.
