Just wondering if any of our lovely ladies have the Essure implants for birth control?

Writing my column and am just looking for some anecdotal reports!

Thanks!

No, sorry, hon. Hubby got fixed.

But I just wanted to comment on your lovely AV.

And you're right - you're taller online.

:D

Not me, but I have thought about looking into it. Let me know if you find out anything interesting.

I got 'em. Whatcha wanna know?

Well, I finally found a decent bulletin board with 20+ pages of posts from women who have had or are considering the procedure. While most of the stories are good (like more than 90%), the ones that aren't are very interesting. It seems from my reading tonight that maybe the prelim numbers from Conceptus weren't fully indicative of efficacy rates.

So, how are yours? How long have you had them? Has everything been the way you'd wanted? Just stuff like that... Anything you'd like to share?

:)

I had a dual procedure--the Essure implants and an ablation. I think that's how you spell it. Anyway, I've not had any issues with them.

The procedure was a little daunting. Fully asleep was not the issue. It was waking up. The ablation left me with such bad cramps that I felt like I was in labor again. Ugh. Just awful.

For those that don't know--you have to wait a couple of months after Essure is implanted before having unprotected sex. Not a problem in this house.

The implants need time to work their magic. They "tickle" the insides of your tubes to create scar tissue that creates a blockage. After the prescribed time, you have to have a diagnostic test with dye to make sure the tubes are closed.

During the wait period, I could feel them inside me on occasion. That was the only side effect I had. Once the tubes had closed, I could no longer feel that tickly feeling. And with the ablation, I no longer have any inconveniences. :D I'm healthier now than I've been in years and for the first time in my life, I might be able to give blood, since my blood count is almost normal.

Sometimes being a woman is hell.

Thanks Witch! How long have you had them?

About two years. No problems at all. No scars from surgery either. Kinda like that. ;)

Still have all my parts, so no hormonal issues. No pregnancy worries. Nothing.

As with anything, the appliance is only as good as the surgeon that installs them. I had a good one.
