What was the 1 album of 2001 that stood out above all others?

System of a Down--Toxicity

I'm pretty sure it came out this year. If not

Soundtrack to "Hedwig and the Angry Inch"

Both are among the best rock albums you'll hear this or any other year.

Tenacious D - Tenacious D
One of the funniest albums to come out this year, or most others. These guys do sarcasm better than even Marxist!

Bob Dylan - Love and Theft
The man is back. Some say this is his best album since Blood on the Tracks. They're right.

Lucinda Williams - Essence
This woman has an amazing voice, incredible talent, and a way of vocal vulnerability that makes you want to take her home and take care of her. On the other hand, she's a pure musician and songwriter who just never seems to get her full due.

Diana Krall - Look of Love
Another simply amazing voice, the kind that makes you want to taker her home and do incredibly perverted things to her. She may also be the best female pianist ever. The total package in a musician. She's also my naughty crush. :)

Patty Loveless - Mountain Soul
This may be her best album. The songs are tailor made for her resonant alto twang, and I thik she was born to sing bluegrass and gospel. She reached into my and pulled out my heart a couple times during this CD.

With the exception of Ten. D, I don't own one of the albums listed above. Thank you JMJ, I'm off to BearShare to get some samples.:)

Quite welcome. I'm gonna hunt down some Toxicity samples later on. I've heard about the album but, since it's not quite my style, I wasn't sure I'd like it. Just maybe I will.

I am so completely out of touch with current music. I didnt buy, copy, or download an album this year that was released in the last year. (When was J5, QC released?). All of the music that has entered into my head has been older indie stuff or low visibility stuff from way back like Sonny Sharrock or Fela Kuti.

Diana Krall does have an amazing vox, JMJ will have to wait in line to bed her.

Love and Theft better than Time Out Of Mind, thats a big statement. Time is an amazing album, the first in which that world weary voice fit perfectly. I'm 25 and it makes me feel 60.

Remember Tenacious D on 'The Show with Bob and David"?....those are classics.

JMJ--With your urban sensibilities I don't know if System of a Down will be much to your liking. However, if you haven't checked out Nikka Costa's (she's not a little girl anymore) last album you're missing something special. Download "Like a Feather." It reminds me of fuzz bass fat bottomed groove from the Staples and Rufus (featuring Chaka Khan)

She's not bad to look at either.

MM, who could forget Bob and Dave. I miss that show.

"Songs in A Minor" by Alicia Keys........her songs
"Fallin'" and "A Woman's Worth" rock!
