The idea is good, but for my taste, the touch of romance ruins it. A hardcore spy falls in love with a target and doesn't want to kill him? That seems too childish. I don't mean to offend anyone, just my humble opinion.

Lee Remick was gorgeous. a far better actress than she got credit for. Great film also.

To a gamer, video games especially, but really any RPG, an 'escort' mission has another meaning entirely. It's a mission where you have to escort a non-combatant NPC safely across a hostile territory.

"Mr. Case, you come highly recommended. I need you and your squad to get my curvy, large breasted wife safely from here to my home in Cael."

I just came upon "undercover as a prostitute story" the other day.
It just does not fly. It's sick.
You can easily imagine a guy (or a gal) doing undercover as a drug dealer (no matter that such an "occupation" does way more harm to society than whoring). But not as prostitute. Who does that? Who would do that?
Obviously, an actual prostitute would do that, but not a policewoman, nor a highly paid intel agency employee.

I must agree with @VerbalAbuse. A spy is always undercover by definition. And what is described here is not a spy but an assasin, which are usually undercover too.
So it's a spy using the role of an escort as cover. Yeah, ok, is probably one of the most clichéd ways of targeting a victim. Yawn.
Then the escort is ordered to assasinate the target they have a sexual relationship with. So it is either just a murder story with a cliché scenario, or it combines the sexual relationship and the murder, which would take us into snuff territory.

And in any case it's pretty similar to Murakami's 1Q84. Hard to beat that.
