Did that myself today.
Dunno why I hate it so much - nothing real justifies my phobia in the slightest.
Today just made things even screwier in my head. The dentist lady actually asked if I wanted a local before she started to drill (but said she normally does give one). Took me a moment to get my head round this, but in fact, the numb face is one of the worst real things about dental treatment (yeah - I mean it really doesn't hurt these days!) So after asking whether she really said what I heard her say - and getting it confirmed - I said I'd go without for a start and see if it hurt.
It didn't.
So I'm frightened of dentistry, but prefer no anaesthetic?
That's even wierder! I really don't understand me.

PS Needles per se don't faze me at all. I'm a regular blood donor and recently had a CT scan (which also involves a needle) and "No hoo-hoo, Lulu!"
The only possible rationalisation I can make is that I can't see what the dentist's doing, while I can see what's going on in the other cases. Looking allows me to take an objective interest in the event...
I am just wierd.

I gotta go Friday to the oral surgeon and have some bone fragments cut out of my jaw. Lovely. Just give me laughing gas until I can't see straight, thank you, Doctor. And afterwards... narcotics!!!
