Do you think there is a difference?
When I mean 'porn', I mean specifically literary porn. (If that isn't an oxymoron.)
I'm curious to get everyone else's views on this.
To me, there is a difference. I consider myself a writer of erotica, not porn.
Porn stories are the jack-off stories. The ones that cut right to the chase. The plot is minimal and typical. (Heck, think of most porn movies here.) It centers on a physical reaction.
Erotica, conversely, is more subtle. It stimulates your mind just as much as it does your body. Erotica slowly teases you and builds up the emotions and eroticism through more unique and complex plots. Erotica is mental and emotional stimulation first, then the physical.
What do the rest of you think?
The reason I ask, a friend of mine who knows I write erotic stories, doesn't see a difference between pornography and the stories I write. He (yes, interestingly enough, he is male) has yet to read a story but he lumps it together with porn. He doesn't hold much esteem for porn either. He thinks all porn is perverted and has no purpose in a loving relationship.
He doesn't see how anyone who isn't a creepy pervert would have any use for erotica/porn. The concept that erotica can enhance a loving relationship is completely ludicrous to him. Incidentally, he is single. Yet he does not seem like the type of person who would have these views.
So.... share. Erotica vs porn? Or are they the same thing?
