Hello fellow writers, I have just tripped across this website and it seems quite interesting. I have been writing for many years, mostly technical stuff and have ventured into short stories and novels. Nothing published yet except for my technical writings. Looking forword to reading and writing some "Erotica". I think I could be pretty good at this. Is there any market for Erotic Writings?:)

Looking forward to learning how this website works and interacting with various writers on this site.

Erotic Writings - An acceptable Art Form?

Acceptable? Yes, of course.

Art Form? Well... and do we actually want it to be an art form, or something else?

Will you make money? It depends on a few things. Oddly enough, the largest market for written erotica seems to be women-- who are not well-served by comercial porn films. And women, by and large, have some preferences that seem to be pretty difficult for men to "get." Emotional and sensory context for the action. Much more communication than men expect-- women write men who talk... A bit of romantic plot never hurts either. This doesn't mean wedding bells, but some sort of tension-resolving denouement.

there are niche categories that men buy as well as women that are not served by porn-- incest is one. The writing doesn't have to cater to women's preferences as much but there are tropes that will make your work more satisfying to the readers. (I don't know them, don't read or write there)

Technical manuals... The market doesn't need those. :)

Yes, I read some where that men fall in love with their eyes, and women with their ears.

I'm more of a reader than a writer at the moment (working to even those out), but I find that I like to connect with the characters. There doesn't have to necessarily be conversation, but I like to know what's going on inside the heads and/or hearts of the people in the story.

Even when I'm just looking for a literary quickie to get me off, and I couldn't give a whit about romance, I still want to know why the characters are doing what they're doing. If I can't relate to their motivations for getting frisky, it's not as appealing.

thanks for the replys. I'll look around the site a bit before posting my first writings - which I think you will find quite enjoyable -although I am basically a technical writer by nature - I have a very imaginative, and dirty mind:devil:

“Erotic Writings – An acceptable Art Form?”

Acceptable to whom?

A dirty mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to share (oh shit! ZOMBIES! braaaaiinnnnsss)

Erotic literature is perfectly acceptible to those who like it. Whether you're going to share your erotic stories with your friends, coworkers, parents, siblings, adult age children, pastor, boss, etc. is probably a better indicator of how 'acceptible' it is....

Sorry, Dude, but they do; oh, Boy do they!.
Obviously it's a different market all together, but they do need Technical Manuals - quite a lot of them.

Yes, I think it is; it's been going on since Roman times. . .
