Erotic literature pay sites?

What are your thoughts on a paysite for erotic literature? I was offered a chance to put my work on a pay site, however, I'm concerned about a few things.

1 - Why would someone pay for erotic lit when there are so, so many free sites for such? I know I wouldn't.

2 - How safe could it be to allow my work to go onto a pay site and still confidently maintain my copyright rights? How would I know if I was ripped off, meaning, if they sold my work as their own elsewhere?

3 - I have no idea how to make sure that I honestly get paid the proper amount without actually being involved in the mechanics of running the site and billing and such.

I have been offered the chance to put my work into audio in the UK in the past and declined the offers. I have also had the opportunity to put my work into e-book form (which I know absolutely nothing about) and have declined that as well. The more I think about it, how can I strive to become a published writer without taking chances and at the same time I don't want to lose my labors of love to some scam artists.

Your thoughts and opinions would be great help so please tell me what your experiences with any of this have been.

Have any of you ever been offered this chance?
Have you done it?
How did it work out for you if you did do it?

I used Ellora's Cave for a while. They exist because it's harder to find out about Literotica than you'd think. There's probably some author loyalty involved as well.

In general, if I pay for written work, I expect a degree of quality control which is almost totally absent from feree sites. (Spelling, grammar, story quality, etc.) Otherwise I want, and will get, my money back.

The owners of such sites make a living at it, as do the owners of free sites, so it is not in their interest to defraud you. The authorities are much more likely to take action if your copyright is infringed by a pay site than if you post it voluntarily on a free site and it is stolen.

The same goes for a paper publisher. With my hardback text book I have no way of checking that my (well-known and respected) publisher isn't lying to me about sales.

I now make my living from an eBook site with its business based in Thailand.

Look at it this way, Wicked, what have you got to lose? How much money are you making with your stories on Lit? Probably about as much as the rest of us.

Maybe I'm just a whore, but I'll put my stories pretty much anywhere, and if there's a chance of making some money off them, so much the better. I mean, it's not very likely that this site is going to rip you off for thousands of dollars in commissions.

As for ripping off your work, it's just as easy to rip it off from Literotica if they wanted to.

I'd go for it. Hell, give them my number too.

I agree with the Doc. We're all posting our stories on this site (and others) for free, therefore what do you have to lose by trying to get a bit of cash from them?

Thanks

Thank you for the replies.
I guess the good Dr. is right, what do I have to lose.
I think I'll give it a go and see what happens.:nana:

Thanks again,
