It was only five days after Wintermane "Bruno" Cafeild's twentieth birthday when Mother Nature decided to wage war on the planet. He was lucky to have been assigned to Fort Bragg at the time. The devastation was bad, but not as bad as it could have been.
It started with a series of six hurricanes within a three month period striking the entire eastern coast of the United States all the way down into South America. No part of Florida was left untouched by the hurricanes. During the same time period, tsunamis followed in the wake of each hurricane flooding the east coast states as well. Earthquakes rumbled through the earth's crust, breaking up the continents. California became an island, Hawaii and it's islands sunk beneath the waves, and the borders between US, Canada, and Mexico became ten mile wide rivers.
This was just a small taste of the worldwide destruction caused in the six months after March 16, 2014. Nearly half of the human population was wiped out, major ecosystems disrupted, and the remaining populations were mostly displaced.
five month after it all began, the destruction stopped. Scientists had been unable to determine the exact causes for the wrath of Mother Nature. Volcanic active did occur, but it wasn't enough to really impact the environment. In the United States, every major utility system was impacted, trillions in damage. In order to get everything back under control, marital law was declared until the chaos could be controlled.

May 2016

Wintermane sighed as he started out the rear passenger window of the M1151, watching the green, flooded plains of Kansas go past. The worst of Mother Nature's wrath should have been over, but the weather patterns had recently became harsher in the past month. Even though farmers had tamed the growing fields back from the wilds, the intense rains had became problems from the Midwest. Lightning storms had been causing communication problems by destroying most steel based electronics. There were also reports of a strange virus that had recently cropped up, causing mutations among the population. It was also said to cause sterilization among those infected, which hadn't been mutated. The virus hadn't popped up until just three months after the start of nature's wrath.

Wintermane was part of an engineering unit that had been experimenting with some new equipment to try and thwart the lightning attacks, working as security. As far as he knew, all the satellites were still orbiting the earth with no damage from the wrath of nature. Communication was one of the major problems the world was still facing. He closed his yellow eyes for a moment as he listened to Lt. Gibson talk on the radio to the rest of the convoy.
"We are still about three hours from the research base Capt. Carlson. Communication was lost three days ago, but all reports indict that is the only problem at this point."
Wintermane opened his eyes once and picked up his M2, checking it over for any problems. He already knew all his equipment was in proper working order, but he was getting bored. Hopefully this would just be another routine mission and things would go smoothly.

Character Profile(s):
-Merigosa "Meri" Dracostein - age 23 - Scientist at a research facility on the Kansas/Colorado Border.-
-Selena Jewelmire - age 20 - Patient and test subject, recently infected by a strange virus causing mutations to appear and caused sterilization.-

March 16, 2014

"Doctor! Doctor! Come help us!" came the cries in the fiery inferno the research facility in Cincinnati had become. Meri held up her arm to try and block some of the heat from hitting her face but the place was too far gone. The ground shook yet again and the foundation of the building began to collapse within itself. Tears streamed down her face as she watched glass shatter, concrete and rebar collapse and bend into the earth. She fell to her knees as the ground shook again and she was dragged away by a couple of soldiers to safety.

Fast-Forward to 2016

"Selena!" Dr. Dracostein called out. She walked through the darkened halls of the research facility, flashlight in hand, clipboard in the other. She opened a door only to hear faint giggling coming from down the hall. Everything had changed over the past two years. The disasters weren't as active but they still occurred. And now a virus had been discovered that caused people to become 'zombie'-like and have mutations. And in those that didn't become zombified, they still gained the mutations but became sterile. They also had a habit of becoming enraged and dangerous. So far, it was only affecting the women that had survived the apocalypse. But Meri wasn't affected by it because there had been a type of anti-virus created to keep doctors and technicians from turning if they came in contact - mostly for the purpose of them being able to study the virus.

Turning another corner, Meri looked into a room that was darkened by the blackout caused by the lightning storms. "Selena?" she called out quietly. She shined the flashlight around and saw a shadowy mass in the corner. "There you are." She walked closely and noticed an eerie pink glow from Selena's form. She was in the nude, her breasts increased in size due to the virus.

"Doctor, what's wrong with me?" Selena asked turning her head up, her eyes glowing in an aurora color and other eyes appearing on her limbs, glowing as well.

"Oh no!" Meri cried out as she ran out of the room, running down to the communication room. Selena's fierce cry of anger and anguish echoed through the darkened halls as she gave chase after the doctor. Meri closed the door behind her, shoving the chair up against it as she went to the radio. It had been out for sometime but she could use the Morse code. Perhaps there was someone that would be able to receive her call for assistance. "S.O.S. at Reginald Research. Requesting military assistance. Anyone nearby?"

It took a few minutes after America sent the message for it to be relayed to the convoy. Winter and was about to doze a bit when Cpt. Carlson came over the radio.

"Alright, listen up boys and girl. HQ just sent us some urgent news. Seems a call for help was received from the research station by one of the scientists. We're gonna speed up, but the best we can give them is under two hours to get there. Once we get there, the security team will clear the building, followed by the engineers. Things need to hop because HQ also said that a massive storm is bearing down from the north, maybe four hours away. No live ammo, tranqs only. Detain anyone that doesn't look like a scientist."

One of the soldiers in the HUmvee with Wintermane awed.

"I was hoping to bag a kill this time around."

This time it was Lt Gibson on the radio.

"None of that talk here. The Umbrella Corp. values their personnel, do watch where you aim. Now the research complex is rather large, but we are only concerned with the main building. It's two story with a basement. The specs I got said it would withstand hurricane weather. Once the building is cleared, my engineers will head to the basement to try and get the backups working. Any questions?"

There was silence on the radio before the timetable could be sent for their arrival. Instructions were also sent for all the research staff to stay put till help arrived.

Merigosa wrote down the return response, her hand shaking as she used the pen. Selena banging on the door sent chills up her spine as the maniacal laughter came from the mutated woman on the other side of the door. "Two hours? Two.. Oh god," Meri repeated to herself as she looked to the paper, eyes wide with fear as she turned in the chair to look at the door. She sat back, her large breasts heaving as she tried to steady her breathing. "They might be here sooner, right?" she thought to herself as she crossed her arms.

"Dr. Dracostein, I don't mean to be this way. Please, just open the door," came Selena's voice, the eerie pink glow shining through the closed blinds that hung on the windows of the communication room. "Please, come out and just play with ME!!!" came the angry plea of Ms. Jewelmire. She had only been infected a week and this was already proving to be a mean virus in anyone, especially if they became angry.

Merigosa leaned back, closing her eyes, her heart beating hard in her chest as she listened to Selena's pleas and claws attempting to tear at the door. Then it was all over. She sat up looking to the windows as she noticed the pink glow go down the hall. Was Selena giving up or just looking for another way in? Meri looked around as she saw there was an air vent but it was screwed shut. But to be safe, she pushed a filing cabinet against the air vent to keep Selena out in case she did try to come through there.

"Please, just someone come quickly," she tapped out in Morse code before sitting back down in the chair.

Even pushing the humvee and transport truck to their limit, it was just under two hours for them to get to the laboratory complex. During that time, Wintermane and his team of three made sure they had everything they needed for the entry to secure the building. They were lightly equipped for this mission, only their grey digital cam uniforms for protection. They really didn't expect any real danger from anything but the weather. His team consisted of him, Martin, and Cheves, both hyenas. They were both older than him by ten years, but they had only gotten assigned to field work for this mission. Wintermane had at least a couple of sorties under his belt.

The whole squad was lead by Cpt. Carlson, a skunk whose fur was beginning to show signs of grey. He was laid back most of the time, but he always made sure the job got done. Lt. Chumu "FrostFang" Gibson was twenty seven years old and in charge of the engineering team. He and Wintermane had met while they were both stationed at Fort Bragg and had became fast friends since that time.

As soon as they reached the lab, Wintermane and his team hit the ground running. They moved quickly through the building, rushing into the rooms whose doors were open. The doors they couldn't open, they knocked and announced themselves, saying they were here to make sure everything was ok and for those in the rooms to stay put until the lights were back on. Their suddeness surprised some of the scientists, but things were quickly under control to maintain calm.

Wintermane and his team were approaching the radio room when they noticed a eerie pink glow start to come around a corner further down the hallway. He held a hand up for a moment, stopping them. The three of them brought up their weapons, watching the glow come around the corner. It was Martin who fired first, taking a three round burst. One tranq went wide, hitting the wall. The other two hit home, striking Selena's shoulder and right breast. It would take a few moments for the liquid to take effect, enough sedative to knock out an elephant.

Martin went forward towards Selena slowly, ready to fire again as Wintermane tried the door of the radio room. Finding it locked, he called out to whoever was in there.

"I'm Sargent Wintermane Cafeild with the 156th Engineer Company. If anyone is in there, just sit tight till the power is back on. It shouldn't be long."

After that, he hit the button on his radio.

"Lt., you should have clearance down to the basement."

Her knees pulled up to her chest, Merigosa held a stapler in her hand. To be honest, it was the only thing she had in her possession nearby that could be used as a weapon. Well, not a very reliable weapon, but perhaps if something were to go wrong it would give the chance for her to get away from an attacker. She soon heard voices and feet shuffling outside. She looked up seeing flashlights shining in the hallway. Something was shot and she nearly jumped out of the chair she was in. Then she heard a voice and someone was trying to tug at the door handle.

"I'm Sargent Wintermane Cafeild with the 156th Engineer Company. If anyone is in there, just sit tight till the power is back on. It shouldn't be long."

She stood up out of the chair, a breath of relief escaping her body as she walked toward the door. "Don't worry, I'm okay," she said moving the other chair she had used to barricade it away from the door. She pulled on it and it opened slightly. "Just because the power is out doesn't mean that this door is inaccessible."

Meri stepped out to be greeted by several soldiers. "I'm Dr. Dracostein, the lead professor of this research facility," she turned her head to see the eerie pink glow starting to simmer down from Selena, two soldiers kneeling next to the patient to lift her up onto a gurney. "Be careful with her. She's not really one to harm anyone, but it's the virus. Don't worry though, not contagious to men, like um...like yourselves," she said walking towards the gurney and securing Ms. Jewelmire's limbs with the straps.

"There's a storm coming, right? I found that out before the power supply went out. Well, I'm not sure what we have in the kitchen area, but do make yourselves at home. Mister, um.. Cafield is it? Thank you for coming to my rescue." Meri smiled at the soldier before leading him down the hall.

Wintermane looked the doctor over for a moment, finding her easy on the eyes. He took a moment to compose himself.

"Please, just call me Wintermane. We will do our best not to harm her."

He followed after her, Martin falling in beside him while Cheves pushed the gurney.

"The storm is supposed to hit in under a couple of hours and HQ wasn't exactly sure on how long it will last. The commander is going to want to talk whoever is in charge once power is back on."

Meanwhile, Chumu and one of his team were heading into the basement yo restore power. The other four were busy unloading all their equipment from the trunks, piling everything in the front Lonny as best they could. It took a few minutes for Chumu to located the main power box, opening it up.

"Looks like the breaker got overloaded. Everything else looks good. Ok, here goes."

He took a moment to make sure all the power switches were in the on position. He laid a finger on the main circuit breaker switch for a second before flipping it to the on position. Nothing seem to happen for a moment. Then a soft whir started up, which slowly raising in volume. The basement soon became noisy as the generators roar to life, power restored to the lab.

"Wintermane, I'll be up in a few moments."

"Roger Lt."

"Doctor, he'll be up shortly."

"The storm is supposed to hit in under a couple of hours and HQ wasn't exactly sure on how long it will last. The commander is going to want to talk whoever is in charge once power is back on."

"Okay then, Wintermane. I'm the one in charge here. Have been since Umbrella turned this place over and started us up for research. They wanted to keep us in the dark and we didn't know what we were researching, at least until recently," Meri admitted. The man before her was quite the looker and it surprised her how someone like him was in the military and not on a pin-up somewhere.

She heard the communication come over the radio, another soldier.

"Wintermane, I'll be up in a few moments."

She smiled hearing that. "Gosh, is your entire squadron full of strong men?"

One of the female soldiers overheard that and coughed her disapproval. "I'm a female, ma'am."

Merigosa shook her head and waved her hands in the air. "I didn't mean anything by it. I'm sorry." She turned to look at Selena on the table. She was still out of it, but starting to move around. The virus was certainly something that was going out of control and in Selena - it was showing to have adverse side-effects with the eyes growing on her limbs and torso.

He gave a little chuckle at the doctor's embarrassment, though he didn't push the issue. As she went to check on Selena, he gave a motion to the others to leave for the time being.

"Go and find something to eat. I'll be there shortly."

He let his weapon hang by it's strap to his side and moved to step beside Merigosa, looking down at her patient.

"She got shot with a couple of darts, enough to take down an elephant for a few hours. It shouldn't affect her too much, but she will probably be out for a couple of hours at least."

Chumu made sure everything was still being unloaded by the time he came up from the basement. Satisfied, he made his way upstairs to find the others. He had to duck a little to get through the doorway with his seven foot frame. He cleared his throat as he came in.

"So who is in charge here, Wintermane?"

The tiger stepped back for a moment as he pointed to the doctor.

"This is Dr. Dracostein, the lady in charge sir."

Chumu gave a smile for a moment as he looked the doctor over for a moment before nodding.

"Pleased to meet you ma'am. I am Lt. Chumu Gobson, the commander for this little excursion. Hopefully we got here in time to help with your trouble. The power problem was a minor one, something overloaded the main breaker. With the storm coming, we won't be able to start working right away, so I hope you don't mind us staying for longer than we had planned."

"She got shot with a couple of darts, enough to take down an elephant for a few hours. It shouldn't affect her too much, but she will probably be out for a couple of hours at least."

Merigosa looked to him and shook her head. "No matter how much you use, she'll wake up. That's why I'm strapping her in tighter. It's the virus. It does something to the muscle tissue and causes the victim to become infused with unimaginable power and strength. You see these?" she asked, pointing to the closed 'eye sockets' that had appeared on Selena's body. "When she's awake, these open. They glow and the power surges. I'm not sure why it has mutated in this form, but other victims of the virus didn't gain mutations like these. There were some that had other things happen to them, but sadly," she paused, "they were taken away by Umbrella when that happened. I truly have no idea what happened to them."

Meri turned around as Lt. Chumu introduced himself, she smiled and eyes became wide as she noticed he had more than two arms. "Wow, aren't you a special one, Lieutenant?" she said in glee.

C: With the storm coming, we won't be able to start working right away, so I hope you don't mind us staying for longer than we had planned."

Meri shook her head. "You won't be any bother. And to be honest - with a few extra people around, I'm sure we can stay safe. There have been some 'happenings' going on outside. Large creatures that obscure the security cams and try to ram the building. When I've tried to turn the cameras to get a better look, it doesn't help as they knock them out, so I just gave up trying to figure them out. Perhaps some of your crew can try to fix the cameras? I have some lying around in the storage shed in the back."

The dragon chuckled for a moment at Meri's comment about his arms. It had been awhile since anyone had commented like that, but it didn't bother him. He did enjoy the attention from time to time.

"It's just how I was born ma'am. Though having an extra set of arms comes in handy from time to time."

He pursed his mouth for a moment as he listened to her tell about the broken security cameras. He glanced towards a clock for a moment, judging how long till the storm hit.

"Well, there is a little time before the storm hits, so I could take a look at the damage done. I'll also need you or someone else to show me what up have equipment wise."

He gestured for her to lead the way. At the door, Chumu looked at Wintermane.

"Keep guard over her and make sure she doesn't escape. I'll send someone in with food."

The tiger smiled and nodded.

"Of course sir. Don't make too much trouble."

Chumu smirked at the tiger, turning to follow Meri. Wintermane looked over Selena, admiring her. She was good-looking in her own way, at least to him, although the mutation seemed to add an exoticness to the female. He soon went over to the window, looking out at the landscape.
