"Entertainment Weekly Reports on Online Petitions to Scrap "Faith of the Heart"

http://talk.trekweb.com/articles/2001/10/16/1003253946.html

God, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought this. How can they put some cheapjack 80's suck power balad that sounds like it should be performed by Aerosmith or Journey at the beginning of a Star Trek? It is so wrong.

Where is that petition???

To: Enterprise? Executive Producers Rick Berman and Brannon Braga

I, and my fellow petitioners, urgently request that the Paramount ignore the recent petitions that seek to remove "Faith of the Heart" by Dianne Warren as the theme for UPN's new "Enterprise" series.

We agree with the decision to use "Faith of the Heart". We also see that the series creators are truly adding "energy" as well as a certain "edginess" to the show by departing from the norm.

Please do not give into the pressure and return to the "old ways". If this show truly is going to be different, it should maintain the departure from standard Trek themes.

EDGINESS?!!!!! EDGINESS????

IT'S A GODDAMNED DIANNE WARREN LOVE SONG! I can't believe I just read that. Where are you from, that alternate universe where the federation is evil and Spock has a goatee?:p

1. I didn't write the petition, I would have had to switch genders and aged about fourteen years to be the person who did write it.

2. No, I'm from the real world were we can't get a multi-million rocket to lunch correctly on its first run.

Never

You'd think a multi million dollar rocket could at least make it to lunch....

The theme song sucksSUCKSsucks... big time - big ass sucking. Major sucking going on. Total suckitude. Absolutely totally completely sucks the big one. If I knew nothing at all about the show and had been living in a cave for the last 40 years and never heard of Star Trek and turned on the TV and heard that theme music I would, in fact, kick the screen in and then run screaming from the house in absolute horror.

It is a travesty of all that is good and right in this world. It is a pox on the soul of the star trek legacy. If Gene Roddenberry was still alive he would disown everyone who had anything to do with picking that stupid suck ass song for the new series.

Heh, heh. Great post, Dil. Obviously I agree all the way. It's a sappy top 40 ballad by Diane Warren which should be Celine Dion's next release. Bad enough in itself, but even worse at the beginning of Star Trek where it is hard for me to ignore.

Unfortunately, alot of people go for that sort of thing, even many Trek fans. I guess I'll have to learn to live with it, grit my teeth and soldier on. ;)

The opening montage is pretty cool though, and could have been even better with the right music. As it is, I have to watch with the mute button pressed.

I thik the song is OK. They should have stuck with Rod Stewart version though.

Listen to the lyrics.. they fit the them of the show...

I did listen to them before I decided they were crap. I'm not one to jump to conclusions. "Reach for the stars..." blah blah blah. What pap. Not an original metaphor or thought there, just a collection of cliches. All the Rod Stewart fans out there'll like it though, I guess.

1. I am not a Rod Stewart fan.
2. 'To boldly go where no one has gone before." Isn't an original phrase or thought either, we've been doing it for a few thousand years, so I suppose we should scrap that phrase as well?

Good for you. I wasn't replying to your message there.

So that phrase was around before Trek?

1. Its just a fucking song!
2. If you don't like it, change the channel or mute the volume for 2 minutes. Its that fucking easy.
3. Online petitions are as useful as tits on a bull.
4. There are more important things to petition about.

I do, actually. But it's also fun to voice opinions sometimes. It's something alot of people do, you know. I liked that movie, didn't like that song, hated that shirt.
