English Lit?

They should start using some of our stories. I can see the class projects now. Jerks.

Question #1: Who is the new teacher? (cuz that one sure as hell should be fired ASAP!)

Question #2: What the hell does "hanging" somebody have to do with English?

Question #3: Can I be warned before they study the bombing of Hiroshima in History class!

Students and dum teachers pull these stunts occasionally.

I believe that your second question can be used to answer your first question [instead of the firing idea.]

Question #2: What the hell does "hanging" somebody have to do with English?
This has to be one of my ex-English teachers. Nobody else could be that stupid.

Question #3: Can I be warned before they study the bombing of Hiroshima in History class!
Since they can probably get nothing worse than big firecrackers, I'm not too worried.

Question 4: What in the hell is the state of mental health services down there?

My guess is that some of our resident teachers of adolescents have periodically entertained fantasies of conducting similar re-enactments.

H. L. Mencken's brother, August, was the author of a now somewhat hard-to-come-by history of hanging titled: By The Neck: A History of Hangings ( New York, New York 1942 ). The volume is part of my Mencken collection.

The brothers Menckenii made a regular habit of attending those events when they were performed.

I'm all for creativity and innovation in the classroom. I love teaching that helps students think outside the box and create connections with literature, or whatever the subject matter.

This? This is beyond stupidity. It is child endangerment. Apparently, it was arranged by teachers (plural). Didn't anyone in the group think this was a bad idea? We actually did a staged hanging in a class, but we used a dummy. In this case, the dummies were running the show.

As accurate and diplomatically put an assessment as I can imagine.

Bloody stupid thing to do.
Eng. Lit, no: Civics, maybe.

And I'll bet they got it wrong.
