English is no longer the private property of brits and yanks

Indians also use C++ and Java, quite well too.

So are your curry and vindaloo recipes still your private property or are you going to share? :p

I'll quote Heavy stick, though I'm not sure he uses this one for you or Redwave.

Here goes though:

Spin

Spin

yes I use that on redwave, he never answer's the question with a fact, just a cut and paste rhetoric.

Most extremists with a tenous hold on reality will either react like Redwave or Yayati.

How would they otherwise manage to cling on to their fairytale beliefs ?

They can't they're true believers after all.

Bit of "Never ending story" I think.

That is a damn good point. India does have close to the number of English speakers as the US, if I recall correctly. The number of people who speak English as a second language must exceed the number of people in English speaking countries by a pretty wide margin by this time.

What effect will English becoming the (apparent) global language of choice have on English itself? Will new vocabulary and even grammar come into the language? If the US and Britain are slow to accept the changes, but most of the English speakers around the world do, will that make us the backward ones?

Fascinating topic for a literature board. Too bad it got started in a yayati thread... or can that be overcome?
