God damn I feel good! Fuck me, that final nearly killed me, but after 4 years of jibes and jokes, after being slated all tournament and for the first time in my life, England are the world champions.

I have no words to describe my feelings, but just wanted to share my gigantic smirk. God bless Jonny Wilkinson, God bless England.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I want to echo all of your sentiments, Earl.

It was an amazingly tense match, but probably the best I've ever seen. I was screaming at the screen when the Aussies equalized with two minutes to go in normal time, and when they went and did it again right near the end of extra time.

It was so apt that Jonny won it for us in the last thirty seconds with his 'Golden Boot'. Good on him! :D

Woohoo!

Lou, toasting our boys.

Good God, how the hell did that happen? :D

Congrats, Earl and English-folk in general. You have earned it.

Oh, and sorry about the systematic ass-kicking of the last few years in all those other sporting events. I'm sure Euro2004 will be no different, though.

Um...what sport are we talking about here?

Rugby Union. :p

Bring on Euro 2004, then perhaps we can have some glory in the footie, too.

Lou

P.S. We rule the world at snooker, always have done, always will. Pretty hot at darts, too. :D

yay hay

i'm still half pissed, way hay, engerland!!!! hubby left me all alone and buggered off down the plough to watch it on the big screen, well almost alone;) my friend came round and we watched with a couple of little drinkies, a couple of bottles that is:D

well done the team and johnny especially, ohh he's lovely, yummie yum, and those tight shirts and shorts:devil: and such big boys, giggle.

And you deserved it, after baby-sitting our President. (We really needed the break, and you have no idea how hard it is finding people to keep him these days!)

Thank you and congratulations.

I'm happy for Earl, Lou and Lori (and her hubby I guess). Haven't seen any rugby but for Earl's shorts. You wear 'em well, lad.

Pear :D

Somewhere in Samoa, a small boy, his hopes crushed, his nation's brief moment of glory nothing but dust now, helps his papa put away the WWII-era generator that powers the family's broadband radio, and goes to bed.

His older sisters climb down from the roof, where they took turns holding and aiming the homemade radio antenna. Exhausted, the girls collapse into their rough cots and fall asleep.

Tomorrow, like his sisters, little Tim-Tim will return to his job at the Nike factory. But tonight, sobbing quietly in the dark, he finally sleeps. And dreams one last time of glory and greatness for the once-proud people of Samoa.

That's GREAT! Earl! :D

By how many touchdowns did you win

You peasant Quasi :D. In rugby, you score four ways - tries (5pts), penalties (3pts), drop-goals (3pts) and conversions (2pts). A try is touching the ball down over the line, a penalty is kicking the ball through the posts after the other team has infringed, a drop-goal is dropping the ball onto the ground and kicking it through the posts and a conversion is kicking the ball through the posts like a penalty (but you only get a conversion attempt after each try).

England were 14-5 up at half-time, but Australia brought it back to 14-14 at full-time, meaning extra-time. England went 17-14 up in extra-time and then the Australians levelled it to 17-17. Then in the last few minutes of extra time, Matt Dawson made a break, Jonny Wilkinson set himself up and kicked a drop-goal that won us the world cup.

I will shortly be setting up a link to highlights of the game in my signature. Even if you don't know the game, it'll be well worth the effort having a look for this is truly the game they play in heaven.

Swing low, sweet chariot........

Raph, grinning all over his face today.

Earl and company,

Congratulations to all of you. Having your team win a championship, especially in such a dramatic way, is a special feeling few fans ever get to experience.

Just imagine how MG, our favorite "Woo Woo" girl, would have reacted if her beloved SF Giants had won this year's World Series, the championship of major league baseball. :)

Savor the moment, guys.

...or at least in Limerick, where a man can't walk the streets with a cantaloupe under the arm without being body-slammed.

Torn

I've played Rugby in England and Australia (and in Gibraltar on gravel - ouch!).

I didn't know which team to support (being Welsh by birth).

The match was a good one for both sides so I'm happy with the result. If either side had won convincingly part of me would have been unhappy.

It was a good result for Rugby.

Grats to all of you. My cubbies fell short and I know how that feels, Savor the moment. They come all to infrequently.

Congratulations Earl, Steve w, England and of course Jonny golden boots Wilkinson. That second half and extra time had me almost sick with nerves and I'm not even crazy about rugby!!

Going to bed now with a huge grin on my face. Thank you England for providing me with it. Good night all.

I wish these damn matches wouldn't kick-off so early, i haven't spent a full day drinking like that since the footballing fiasco in Japan last summer. Sale and England winning make for a very happy hangover!

Always wondered how well Australians would take defeat. Not too bad really, since they've had so little practice at it.

:D

Holy far out Batman!

What a game eh! I loved every moment of it.

Sat on the edge of my seat and shouted at them. Did them good too by the looks of the outcome. :D

I just want to know, what has 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot', what I always believed was an American negro spiritual song, got to do with England and with Rugby?

WSO

I think you will find in Rugby Clubs up and down the land, the words to Swing Low... are rather different from the original. In the club they only use the tune, each verse describes a different hmm... activity many of which I am afraid I have absolutely no understanding.

Out on the terraces the original words are sung creating the popular illusion that rugby is a Gentlemans game and those rough brawny lads would no more do unmentional things to a ladies nether regions than a boy scout would refuse to help an old lady cross the road.

Wasn't it live on SportTV? At least I think they're going to air it again tomorrow night at 8:30...

Hi Lauren

How you doing?

You are right, I don't have a link up to services at the moment, not until the building work is more advanced. So I'm stuck with the Internet broadband. It was ok for the other games but snagged up for the 'big one'.

My daughter recorded it for me so I'll get to see it Tuesday when I go back to the UK for a few days.
