Pardon the above pun.

Okay. My town is small, and there's an amazingly low crie rate, right? It's no thanks to the IDIOTIC policemen here that would have to struggle to get a notch above the Keystone Cops. I've been following this story to no end and it's finally made me angry enough to need to vent about it.

In 1996, a woman from my church's son was abducted on his way to school. I've watched this woman grow thinner, paler, cry more often, and it's just been breaking my heart for the last four years..

Because in all that time, they never found a single goddamned suspect.

So FINALLY there's this switch in power, and gee-- there's a repeat offender against young boys who, after searching with a warrant, it's found likes to impersonate police officers, has a file full of pictures of hundreds of young boys, and a list of names of children he's already been convicted of molesting and killing-- and on the list was the name of my friend's son.

Which had been sitting there for FOUR FUCKING YEARS. Four Christmases, four birthdays-- without so much as a suspect to comfort the mother.

And NOW-- and I love this-- the majority of the 28 boxes of evidence may get thrown out on a RELEVANCE decision? Christ. And to think there was a time when I -wanted- to be a lawyer..

Sorry. I'm just really angry and disgusted with the PD right now. For crying out loud, we don't even have a single cop on the street between the hours of one and three, someone could rob a damn BANK and nothing would be done about it until after the shift change!

Sorry. Getting really worked up. *embarrassed smile* I'll shut up now.

Anyone else have similar rants?

The unfortunate part of all this is money. Most police departments/agencies don't have enough money to conduct extensive investigations. But that doesn't excuse the fact that aren't pursuing the matter. Being a small town police force I suspect that they "have better things to do." Like waste taxpayers dollars by finding ways to avoid doing their job. I've seen it and heard from from former cops. They would rather pursue a murderer or bank robber because it grabs more headlines. Just my opinion on the whole thing...unfortuntate thing for the mother and those involved...burns me too... Worked many years in the human services field and have seen how bureaucracy works, how it can be prejudice....can could go on and on.

(10 reasons that many became cops)

"REALLY SAD THINKING ABOUT IT"

It is a real shame because some of the best people in the world work as police. But like the old saying goes it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the whole batch.

Part of the problem of being a cop is that when you deal with the scum all day long you start to think that everyone out there is scum.

I had an bad experience in a small north Texas town years ago. I had been at work and came back to find that the house had been broken into and the stereo stolen along with some other stuff.I had a good idea who had done it and left everything alone while I went to find a cop. Well it was early Sat morning and when I found one all I got was I'm sorry but the detectives only work 9-5 weekdays. Monday came along and and the detectives said it had been too long for them to do fingerprints but that they would check the pawn shops and such for the stereo. Well after two weeks I went and checked in the only pawnshop in town and guess what there sat the stereo. I went to the cops who arrested the guy(he had pawned it in his own name!) Well to make a long story short, due to a dumbass assistant DA the guy got off (charged him with B&E instead of stolen merchandise) I was asked to pay the pawn shop for my own stereo so that the pawn shop would cooperate with the cops. Since then if I can't handle the situtation myself I call friends not the law.

If you are in law enforcement please do two things. Clean your own house of the ones that are not up to the high standards needed in that position. Remember that just because you deal with low lifes all day not many of us are and not all of the people that get arrested are either.

Back in the mid 80's, I was employed as a Corrections Officer for 3 years at the county lockup(I know that is a bit of a stretch of the imagination given my appearance now). Most(not all) of the deputies working there and some of the CO's, took the job because it gave them some kind of thrill being an authority figure. Some even went out of their way to talk "down" to people and in a few cases tried to goad them into a physical altercation(which would invariably lead to an ass kicking involving several officers). I assume it reinforced their feeling of superiority to do this....I thought they were just pathetic. These were the guys who were enthusiastic about joining and always referred to most people as "scum" and "dirtbags"..loved their guns too. I got tired of all that shit pretty quick(and having to cut my hair too)...so I got out

I have a little theory about how to straighten this problem out...unfortunately it is a bit of a "Catch-22" also...Simply this...If anyone WANTS to be a cop, then they should be disqualified as mentally unfit....

All that said...I have had no bad experiences in my personal dealings with police officers even with the way I look and all that might entail..As far as professionalism I would say the State Patrol here in Ohio are tops...I have seen them bring in drunks that were spitting, swearing, calling them every name in the book and their mothers too and the troopers still were polite as hell calling them sir or ma'am....actually at times it was hilarious....

Depressing job though....

I didn't mean to get down on cops. I have seen some in these small towns that didn't know how to do their job. They got the job because they were the only ones available. THATS REAL SAD>

Remember the security guard that discovered the bomb at the Olympics in Atlanta? They focused on him so long they ruined his life, and let the real culprit get clean away. I think they're still looking for him in the back country of Geogia.

There are examples of gross incompetence in every profession. It is unfair to make generalizations about any line of work.

Yeah.. this thread wasn't entirely what I meant; then again, damned if I know what I 'wanted' this thread to turn into. I was pissed off about incompetence (even though it's starting to look more and more political than lazy for some reason) and vented.

Let's face it, sometimes government and the legal system just really pisses me off. But there's one thing about it, anyway.. It ensures we'll never have a better government than we deserve.
