Endless Ends

Even the question confused me. After Googling, this makes sense as I have never seen the movie 😳
Oh giiiiiirrrrrllll...I'm a Carpenter fan and that's one of his best. Check it out! It's gnarly though so it may not be your thing.

Also @Endless_Night Mac was human, Chiles was the Thing. Dude just straight disappeared while shit was going down. That ain't right.

I question the surety of this pronouncement, Boo. 🤨

Why then, was Mac so comfortable waiting to see what happened? Why did he share his bottle of alcohol, thereby opening the way to possible infection?

They both knew they only way to keep it from reaching the populace was to kill it outright, not . . . let it freeze.

Nope, I’ve never seen either. I’ve watched very, very few horror movies. They scare me! 🙈
The original is black and white, so not all that scary.

John Carpenter's version is scary. Suspenseful. Gory, too, but the gore is a series of over-the-top special effects. Camp, almost. It was negatively reviewed on release, but since gained respect as a rather brilliant sci-fi horror.

It's a quick paced study on paranoia and the effects of fear and paranoia that comes from erosion of trust in an isolated grouping.

If you ever get a yen, give it a view.

It's a film that comes up under discussion periodically in PM.

In the middle of one right now, in fact. 🤣

The novella is still not finished.

I got sidetracked by a completely inexplicable and urge to watch the movie.

I have, however, read far enough to know that an in urgent need of an ice axe. :p

#goals

Extra appropriate as I woke this morning to a blanket of snow as far in every direction that I could see. Crazy!! ❄️

*SPOILERS TO THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT!* ;)

By that point Mac was just checked out and didn't care anymore. The tone of his voice is basically "Welp, this is the end." So he wasn't thinking about survival. All escape methods were gone, the camp was burning down, there was literally nothing for him to do. He was clear headed and ready to die.

Childs actually may or may not be the Thing but him showing up at the very end is still pretty suspicious. The whole point of the ending really is that it's ambiguous. But I've heard arguments in the past saying that Childs is the Thing because we don't see his breath. Which makes sense.

And actually if you count expanded continuity Mac survives. But that is what it is.

I could go with you on this, but that little laugh MacReady gives when Childs drinks from the bottle makes me wonder . . .

I still have to read the novella one of these days. And watch the original.

Ah yeah, that's true too. I think this is why the end is the gift that keeps on giving, because it's so fun to examine and can go all sorts of ways.

I think they made it so there's an argument for both of them, knowing there will be people on both sides...
This is so. Too, people argue themselves one way and then switch sides. I wonder if Carpenter will ever reveal his intention with the ending. 🤔

The original is great! So well written and engaging. It's a Howard Hawke's production, and has that tight patter and interrupting dialogue that moves things along.

I feel I should warn you. There was a limited budget for special effects so they went . . . another way with the monster. Yup. :p

Fun fact. The Thing is played by James Arness of Gunsmoke fame.

Can't say I'm all that familiar with Gunsmoke, but I am vaguely aware of a Miss Kitty so I must've seen an episode or two.

When you are tired of the old movies, and want something new . . . there's always Broadway . . . Bitingly Entertaining and Bloodily Amusing . . .

This is spectacular!

Forsooth, I can't recall ever seeing a play with a creature feature bent. 🤔

I feel like this should be remedied. Like, immediately. Now, where does one find one of these? Broadway is a little further than I'm in the mood to travel.

I have mentioned being an ash blond many times. Like others of that type, much of what little body hair I have is fair. Not exactly blond, but colorless. This extends to my eyebrows. Three quarters of the hair is virtually clear.

As I am pro eyebrow, they are usually dyed.

Back in 2020 when Covid hit, I stopped, and due to various reasons, never started back up. Last week, I had them dyed.

Only now am I starting to not feel like Dracula.

Should I mention that even with brow technician assistance, my eyebrows are not that noticeable? But even then, let me just say it's a shock! 🤣

Well, there are other options . . .
No. No, there are not. 😂

In no way could I, or would I want to, carry that off. It's akin to that trend where women were eyelashes so thick it can be possible for them to see. I walked into an office last week, and, I swear, the receptionist looked like she had two caterpillars on her eyelids. 😳

That said, I did see someone recently with sone single rhinestone centered under her eye. Simple and tasteful. I was a fan.

I looked for a picture, but failed to find anything that didn't look like someone flung a whole box of rhinestones on their face.

I am feeling that work out. 😬

Also, am I the only person in the universe who didn't realized today was the Super Bowl?

I drove into town for dinner and was ah-mazed at the lack of traffic. It's like being the only person who doesn't celebrate Christmas on December 25th. 🤷‍♀️
