has anyone else read this book? i read it a year or so ago.and really liked it. (someone i loaned it to just returned it..that's why it's on my mind)

it's a sci fi book written by orson scott card..it's an easy/fun read..if you haven't read it..i recommend it

if you have read it..what did you think? did you read any of the other books in the series?

I have seen it in the book store a view times but don't really remember what it was about.

I've read them all. First discovered Ender's Game when I was about 15, and was immediately sucked in. Ender's Shadow is also excellent, as was Shadow of the Hegemon. The next book is due this summer, and there are two more after that.

Whenever I feel weak, I think of Ender for strength.

Classic.

I read it many years ago and still remember how much I enjoyed it. Try Zalazny's first 3 of the Amber series. Or some William Gibson. Also good stuff

"Ender's Game" is a hell of a good read. The sequels which followed aren't all that hot.

Card is a weird sort of guy. Some of his books are true gems (The Alvin Maker series, for isntance) and others are absolute crap. It's an either-or sort of thing for me with him.

Yep.

My thoughts exactly.

Very cool how the first Ender book is so different from the second Ender book, but using the same characters.

I'm not into technical sci-fi--I generally lean toward fanasty stuff, and because I tend to get lost in too much technical stuff--but Ender was easy to follow.

I loved the Alvin Maker books.

Dang, Jazzman--you kinda scare me--*wink*

Right now I'm finally finishing the last Robert Jordan book. Want the last George RR Martin one, too, awwwfully bad...

Ender's game was fantastic. I read most of the series, but started getting a little bored with Xenocide, and never finished it. Been meaning to pick it up again.

Damit...

It's 11 o'clock at night........ now I've got o go look for those bloody books...

I liked the three I read (no, I can't remember the titles) :)

C'ya later...

now......... which box did I put those books in?

everybody gets into the fighting in Ender's Game, but very few appreciate the other books in the series (Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, Children of the Mind).

Speaker for the Dead is my favorite book, and it's about as far from my "normal" books as can be (w/o being trashy smut romance books).

i really liked speaker for the dead too...and i started xenocide too..but couldn't make it through...

i'm glad so many people have loved this book...i have a copy if anyone needs to borrow it!

The book was amazing. I couldn't help but think of the book when movies such as Last Starfighter and Harry Potter (in a strange sort of way) came out. :rose:

Apparently, they're currently looking to cast for a movie version.

I pray they do the book justice.

Lucky me.

I must have found the crap ones.

Not really, OSC isn't for everyone.

I haven't read anything by him that I really enjoyed. His style just doesnt seem to fit my imagination.

Private Vasquez try Ender's Shadow it is the same story (Ender's Game) but from Bean's point of view.

Very interesting, worth reading.

Ya gotta love an author who lives in North Carolina!

I am reading a book called " Sir Apropos of Nothing " it is actually quite good. You also might want to check out Robin Hobbs Assassin seires. It is a trilogy. Assasin's Apprentice, then Royal Assassin and finally Assassin's Quest.

I've read them all Amelia. When they were first published even.:D Highly recommended reading.

It is one of the few series that I even re-read from time to time.

Ishmael

I loved it.

Read it quite a few years ago in Finnish and now I have the whole series in English.
It's just waiting on the shelf among loads of other books.
One of these days...

I didn't really like Alvin the Maker series, although I read the first book a few times.

reading this thread makes me like us even more....if that makes sense...

anytime i ask anyone if they've read this book they always say no..and then when i say it's sci-fi..their eyes glaze over...they never even give it a chance..!

i always try to convince them by telling them that i'm not a huge sci-fi fan and that it's a worthy read...but..they usually don't believe me

I think I'll have to go and buy it then. It sounds good

I'm a Heinlein fan.

(and will probably be shot down in flames for it)
