He cheated!

Walter Payton is better then him.

He doesnt deserve the record.

Go Bears!

Eh, if Payton's family is happy to see SMith get the record, then it's all right in my books.

Records are always made to be broken.. I or others for that matter just didn't think the record Sweetness set would be broken, let alone broken so soon.

What in the hell are talking about?

Emmitt Smith is an absolutely wonderful man! Even if he is moronic enough to play for the Cowboys.

We wouldn't even be having this Emmitt debate if Barry Sanders hadn't retired for no reason at all.

It's kind of a silly record, isn't it? Isn't it more a measure of being consistently healthy then anything else?

I mean, Barry Sanders was an exciting running back and should probably hold that record but he retired early. The fact that Emmitt is sticking around for years he'll regret heavily in ten years doesn't make him more of a rusher.

Yeah, but one player got to play on Championship-Calibre teams and the other was in Chicago, in THAT weather, not a dome...

Yeah, I'd put an asterisk it.

Hell almost every record since Creatine hit the market...

:(

Barry Sanders.

After playing so brilliantly for the Lions to no wit I'm suprised he didn't kiss his glock...

Probably a lot like Walter felt at times.

I like Walter Payton, but I think Jim Brown was a better running back.

TB4p

Brown's the one who really cheated - he retired WAYYY early.

How many more yards could he have gained in another 3-4 years????

You're going to have to do more than yell cheater Lazarus1280, how, in your humble opinion, did he cheat?

If Walter was still with us, I think he would have been there yesterday to shake Smith's hand. He was a stand up guy, and a damned good runner. He knew few records stand forever.

I dont love you anymore.:(

Emmitt has the record and my respect for being a class act as an athlete and a person. The fact that he could bear the sight of himself in the mirror wearing a Cowboys uniform speaks more to his lack of self respect. But the fact is, he should thank Barry Sanders for retiring early as he would have been roughly 2000 yards beyond what the record was today if he hadn't.

But either way, if the record is not Barry's or Walter's I'd just as soon it be Emmitt's.

I am just the die hard bears fan that is sad to see the record go to someone else. Walter Payton has probably always been one of my faovirte players. My number when I played ball was 68
(34 x 2) since I was a lineman and I couldn't be 34.

I know Walter would of been there if he were still alive, because he is just that great a guy.

But you got to remeber it took Walter Payton less games to run as many yards as he did. SO Emmit's record doesnt count! :p

Laz, I'm gonna file this under Bob Gibson is the best pitcher ever, and Lou Brock is the REAL alltime base stealer. ok?

I'm willing to bet that Walter Payton played more games than whoever he beat's record.

Hear me, I hate the Cowboys with a passion but

E. Smith is an outstanding person and player. Kudos to him
