Interesting read.....good to see others impressions.

Not knowing much about the laws covering such in England, I won't say much.

Apparently "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me" does not apply.

Everywhere.....people are tired of the constant PC requirement. Think I would call it free speech if it happened stateside.

Multiculturalism is a nice idea......that doesn't appear to be workin.

What sometimes passes for discussion on Literotica could be prosecuted in the UK.

The UK Police generally take a lenient view of racial abuse unless the action is in public, obvious and intended to grossly offend. If her rant hadn't been posted on YouTube it would probably have been ignored.

There have been several responses in the UK suggesting that Emma West is woefully ignorant of England's long history as a nation of immigrants. She is presumably unaware of the Polish pilots who were major players in the Battle of Britain, nor that people, of all colours and religions, from the Commonwealth and Empire fought for Britain in both World Wars.

The laws against inciting racial hatred have been used against extreme Muslim preachers, if complaints have been made. Someone has to be offended by the incitment. Many people can't be bothered to report the likes of Emma West, nor intolerant people of any race or religion.

As I mentioned earlier, the post that appears to be a Daily Mail report has interpolations from another hand. 'The Daily Mail writer had a good point...' reference is not actually by the Daily Mail writer, it's an addition by a racist.

The indigenous population where I live contains people of many colours, races and religions. But some of the white people lliving here seem to think that non-white people have less right to be thought English than the white people. Why is that ok? Personally I think to call a Pakistani a Paki is an insult. You think that's ok?

I think Jeremy Clarkson's 'jokily saying strikers should be shot' was in really bad taste. He's an arrogant rich television personality who has no knowledge of what it's like to live with financial difficulty. But obviously we differ here.

I'm surprised you think we're still living in a Blairite Britain. Didn't he move on to become another rich bastard making a fortune out of consulting for hedge funds? Didn't some other gang get voted in?

The over reaction to Emma West is obscene as all she did was scream unpleasant ,albeit racist abuse in a train carriage at nobody in particular. The Daily Mail writer had a good point that a lot of the indigenous population are treated like cunts in their own country. So now you can get done for being rude and obnoxious, God help everybody.

Perhaps we are living in a 1984 society dominated by thought police. If a moslem woman had done the same but commented about 'kaffirs' and 'infidels' nobody would have said a dicky bird.

If Emma West had beat an old lady to a pulp or wrapped an iron bar round somebody's head I could understand the hysteria but incidents like this seem to make the local press only.

Another example of modern moral panic hysteria in the 'UKAY' the popular presenter of the TV show 'Top Gear' jokily mentioned the other day that strikers in the public sector should be shot, and the uproar that followed was hilarious. 21,000 complaints to the BBC over a poxy throw away remark that nobody in their right mind would take seriously. But then again....

I think that it is a considerable improvement that the general public in the UK now see this sort of rant as unacceptable.

You can't be serious. If a Muslim woman had done that it would have been reposted on every racist blog on the internet as an example of why Muslims should be deported and Islam eradicated.

But when a white English woman does it, she's simply exercising her right to freedom of speech

Personally, I'm not fan of hate laws (as we call them in Canada). However, the way that woman was carrying on- screaming and yelling and being abusive towards other passengers- was NOT acceptable. That sort of disruptive and disorderly behaviour should definitely be punishable.

I know New Addington too well. My former home is now on the tram route to New Addington.

Even there, there are people who would be offended by her. Her views may be common in some estates, but they are LESS prevalent than they were in my youth, spent in places similar to, and close to New Addington.

What upsets her, and people like her, is that New Addington is no longer an enclave of white former East Enders. It now has immigrants from Eastern Europe and descendants of immigrants from the Commonwealth.

Even the former East End, where some of my family lived, had immigrant populations that were abused and suffered prejudice, and that had been the situation for hundreds of years.

The overall situation, even in New Addington and similar places, is that racial prejudice is less than it was fifty or sixty years ago. I know that it still exists.

Even as a notorious Islamophobe, I confess to a certain admiration for the way Islam gets you coming and going. You may have noticed in recent years various foot-of-the-page news stories about Muslim cabbies at Minneapolis Airport refusing to allow seeing-eye dogs in their taxis, or a dispute between Dutch dog-walkers and a local mosque, or a mysterious spate of dog poisonings in heavily Muslim parts of Catalonia, or the decision by the British police to make sniffer dogs wear booties to avoid offending Muslims, or Anwar Sadat’s daughter suing Dreamworks for naming a dog after her father in the film I Love You, Man, or the introduction of the seeing-eye horse for blind Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan. And you might have concluded, as a sensitive multicultural type, that Muslims aren’t quite so keen on man’s best friend as your average infidel.

More fool you. The French actress Marie Laforêt made that careless assumption and, as a result, she’s now on trial:


72-year-old Laforêt, who first found fame as an actress in the 1960s, placed an ad on an internet site looking for someone to carry out some work on her terrace in 2009, reported daily newspaper Le Parisien on Thursday.

She specified in the ad that “people with allergies or orthodox Muslims” should not apply “due to a small chihuahua.”

Laforêt claimed that she made the stipulation because she believed the Muslim faith saw dogs as unclean.

Perish the thought!


Experts in the Muslim faith were quoted as rejecting the defence.

“Dogs are not considered unclean and it’s false to suggest otherwise,” said one quoted by the newspaper.

Did the Council on American-Islamic Relations get that memo? Or the Ayatollah Khomeini? Or is it only French actresses who get hauled into court for having the temerity to “suggest otherwise”?

I’m no “expert in the Muslim faith”, but surely one reason Muslims don’t keep dogs is because so many infidels are eager to be their poodles.
