There is good everywhere, the thing is that people respond to salacious news and gossip, so it's what gets reported.Yeah - you are probably right. Despite the mountain of contrary evidence.

We are a prurient species, no doubt. There is good everywhere, the thing is that people respond to salacious news and gossip, so it's what gets reported.
Remember that we are in a time where most of us are not in danger of imminent death from disease, war or starvation. There's horrid shit going on, but it's always been going on, it's just that now it's more visible. We are a prurient species, no doubt.
I feel we are in this awful retrograde moment in history. Then most of history is probably like that. Progress then reaction. Then progress again.

I miss all that fun. Have had him on ignore for a long time. Here's something that shows just how doggedly optimistic and helpful humans can be in the face of all reality: JohnSm123, everyone's favourite wet blanket, has posted another thread, and people are still giving meaningful replies.
I think that most of the time. Then there is some stupid clusterfuck.Remember that we are in a time where most of us are not in danger of imminent death from disease, war or starvation. There's horrid shit going on, but it's always been going on, it's just that now it's more visible.
Media amplifies the negative. It can also amplify the positive; it's just that the negative has a positive feedback loop because people love to be outraged, and outrage generates clicks.
Whenever it gets too much I like to go "This, too, shall pass." It's trite, but it is true.
Go placidly amidst the noise and haste.
I have a very low threshold for "fun". Mostly I'm surprised at how long the whole thing has been going on. Wasn't he moaning last summer how he was going to be banned from the forum for some unspecified reason? In retrospect, it would probably for depressing everyone.I miss all that fun. Have had him on ignore for a long time.

What titties? Where?Nope, sorry. Sanity is too conditional to mean much and good intentions are at the root of many bad actions.
But at least we can still enjoy titties.

The other day I was taking a walk through a botanical garden and saw an elderly lady attempting to take a photo of a flower, but her hands trembled too much for her to compose a good shot. Her husband noticed her struggle and went over to her and clasped his hands around hers to help steady her phone and he patiently waited with his hands clasped over hers while she composed the shot she wanted. He didn't take the photo for her. He didn't grumble when she took too long. He just helped. It's a simple little gesture but I thought it was so beautiful.Today, I need something to restore my faith in the basic sanity and general good intentions of at least a majority of humanity. Seriously doubting both.
Any offers?

I mean the flower was meh. There were waaaay better flowers in that garden. But that small gesture was nothing short of pure expression of love.
I have something small that might help - yesterday I took my daughter to a Halloween/birthday party on the other side of the city. We've had to put a new costume together for her as she's outgrown the last one we botched up, but she still has the old one (she's just turning 7, an age at which throwing anything away is tantamount to betrayal, 'because I might need it/still love it/still use it (not been used in a year), etc'). Anyhoo... one of the other girls going to the party is a year younger and the daughter of an only mother who, I am reliably informed, is just about keeping the wolf from the door. My daughter has only met this girl a couple of times, but they've bonded. So, my daughter insisted that we take her old costume because she was (rightly) pretty sure that the other girl's mother wouldn't have been able to get one for her.Today, I need something to restore my faith in the basic sanity and general good intentions of at least a majority of humanity. Seriously doubting both.

oh my god this is unbearably precious. Of course, it actually meant I had to lug the costume (and my daughter's, and all the presents and extra candy, and... you get the picture), but I'm very pleased that she considered it at all.

Not quite... I turned a blind eye to the extra candy she wolfed down yesterday evening. I think she preferred thatoh my god this is unbearably precious. I hope you hugged your little girl until she squeaked.
Thank you, but it's all her. You're raising a wonderful girl.

If you start from the base of 'well we're all going to die sometime' then things start to look up. If an older person is shitty to me, I can reflect that I will outlive them, but if it's a shitty young people then can carry on being shitty long after I'm gone and I won't care.Remember that we are in a time where most of us are not in danger of imminent death from disease, war or starvation. I would offer you some American half-price chocolate but... it is... inferior to European chocolate.If you start from the base of 'well we're all going to die sometime' then things start to look up. ETA I don't always hold to this fatalistic optimism but I've had a tiring day and asdfghjkl;
