This has been happening to me all day also. A few PMs got through but definitely not all of them.

There have been a rash of spam PMs ( not just here. It's the flavor of the day for spammers ) of late. Once Laurel is informed of them, she deletes the account and all PMs sent.
If you got one, you would get the email alert because that happens almost instantly. If Laurel deletes them between the time the email is sent and the time you visit the forum, there won't be any PMs waiting for you when you arrive.

If the opposite is the problem ( not getting notification of PMs you did get ) it may be that the feature is temporarily disabled until the tsunami of spam PMs die down a bit, in order to eliminate the mass of confusion I was answering in the first post.

Email alerts seem to be working again. I got all of my missing emails around 3AM this morning, in a big bunch and very out of order. But now seems fine.
