em dash

I think the En dash looks better in my opinion, especially if there are spaces either side of it.

This might sound hokey, but I type Alt-0151 whenever I want an em-dash and it holds.

To be clear, I hold down the Alt key while typing 0151 and only let go of the Alt key after typing 0151.

Instant gratification since it renders it immediately as an em-dash, as well.

I use ALT-0151, too, but have noticed that converted to two hyphens on my last story or two when viewed on my phone. Not sure about earlier stories.

My guess is that Lit's text processor ( like most of them ) is based primarily off Word, so the Word special characters are the only ones that are guaranteed to come out as expected.

That's why I've gone with the override of the special character code, because I know it's allowed and always appears as expected in the final posting.

That happened on my last story, too. I PM'd Laurel and got no response, and the problems hasn't been fixed. I haven't had that problem before. My em-dashes appeared as em-dashes in the preview window, so something is wrong in the system.

Two hyphens are two byes. An em-dash is a three-byte character. I wonder if they decided recently to use two dashes to save a byte, but didn't change the preview? If so, then that's an economy I don't appreciate.
