Elizabeth Warren is

1/32nd Cherokee

Why is this something I keep seeing come up in discussion?

Because she lied so as to obtain Affirmative Action preference to position herself before other, perhaps more deserving and capable individuals. It points out in vivid technicolor the abuses of 'diversity' legislation.

You have to speak Dumbass in order to be able to understand the significance, so I can't help you there.

I do know that Warren is from Oklahoma, which has a not-insubstantial number of "white" people who have some Cherokee ancestry--including the current head of the Cherokee nation.

Unfortunately for Warren, sho chose a tribe for herself that has an extremely well documented lineage, and they themselves have documented, she ain't Cherokee... at all! The only relationship that has been established is her families relatioship to those who forced the Cherokee from North Carolina to Oklahoma on the 'Trail of Tears'

Cite me somewhere that says that, that isnt a crazy RW conspiracy theory blog.

Does a heritage whore deserve special treatment because her great, great, great grandparent was an Indian?

Fact of the matter is, the only evidence she's got for 'indian heritage' is a picture she saw as a kid with 'high cheekbones'.... with that kind of evidence, she got preferential treatment and admission to Harvard?

good question.

"no" should be the obvious answer. should be, but don't tell dems that

Elizabeth Warren is...

at best, an exaggerator and, at worst, a liar.

It's well documented that she claimed native American ancestry. This enabled her to enjoy preferential hiring status and it also enabled Harvard Law School to report that it employed a "native American."

Now, they've all got egg on their face.

When called on the carpet, the only proof she's been able to offer is "family stories."

I have Indian heritage myself. Twice as much as her, in fact. But the truth is that I am white.

I have Cherokee ancestors but whats bizarre is the 1870 Florida Census, on it one Cherokee ancestor listed her race as black. She wasnt black. Only blacks could vote in 1870 Florida, not Indians, not her Rebel husband. So both became 'black.'

Gee, will Harvard ever be able to put this behind them and recover their ruined reputation

So its an issue because she chose to list it, and you dont?

Got it.

It's an issue because she's a white heritage whore that calls herself an Indian who's lucky if she's 1/32 Cherokee. Oh, sorry, "Native American".

Maybe she should have picked another tribe out of the hat... hell, if she'd just said 'Lumbee', nobody has a clue what that means, not even the ones that are!

The first part of this is speculative--how many people, if told something about the ancestry of a great-great-great grandparent, ever think to question this unless they actually research the genealogy themselves? Warren having a small amount of Cherokee ancestry would make her about as "special" in Oklahoma as having a French-speaking ancestor in Louisiana. Even if it's false, it's not the sort of thing someone in her position would go around doubting.

The second part is just plain a lie. Her qualifications are beyond reproach. Warren is a figure of international renown on the merits.

They can't play their usual card against her, "elitist," because of her modest background and red state roots, so they've had to invent a charge that she's somehow undeserving of her spot at Harvard. I'm pleased to see that Massachusetts seems to be yawning about all this, which isn't to say I'm confident she will win her race.

get off the righteous indignation soapbox, bro.

she misrepresented herself, and subsequently allowed harvard to do the same. she's not the devil, but she did something pretty damned stupid.

and considering how qualified she seems to be, it makes it even more stupid.
