Electoral Shenanigans Start In Mid-Terms

It is pretty simple. If you only want one candidate to win you just rank them first and you are finished. You don't have to rank anyone else. But if there is a second candidate you would prefer if your first choice doesn't make it through the first round, then you rank them second.
They'd prefer a system where they can point & grunt.

Let me be clear on this one - this is informational and I am as skeptical as much as you likely are.

But she did exactly what I said she should do.

The timing of this information is fishy as well. Muddying the waters benefits the right and there's no way there's enough time to resolve this.....that looks more to me like Peltola not knowing.

I think ranked choice is also not helpful for this situation. If I were a resident of Alaska, I'd vote singularly for my candidate and no one else.

(Also, ranked choice is good for open primaries more than the general imo)

Vance is a racist piece of shit.

Imagine not understanding that we have visitors that come to the US on vacation that need medical help.

Imagine being so bigoted that you go to the hospital and are focused on translators and not on the fact that people are scared.

Imagine being offended by someone else's inability to speak one of the most difficult languages to learn, English, and then saying they can't get medical care because they have problems learning it.

Imagine not understanding that speaking in a native language, creates a better result on a medical diagnosis, because not having the right vocabulary to properly explain your issue, could mean the difference between life and death.

Imagine being such a terrible human being that you're JD Vance.....

I just took a trip to Europe. If I was hurt and needed help in France, Belgium or the Netherlands, all places I visited on this trip, and I was expected to speak French, Flemish or Dutch in order to visit a hospital, it would be a disaster.

That's not a requirement in ANY country, because it's understood that you have to get the best description of the ailment possible, in the person's native tongue, in order to provide the fastest and most comprehensive care.

Vance is not only a racist bigot, but he's also a complete MORON for this statement, and if you cheer this, you're the same.....I'm sorry, but this is not a valid point in any possible way.

English is not, and never will be the official language of the US. We accept all languages because the words you speak don't matter, it's about the content of your character, and your willingness to participate in the experiment that is the US democratic system.

Vance can go to the place he belongs, which is hell, for this sentiment.

Pshaw, its not the end of the world. @dumborilla was reduced to "pointing and grunting" after his recent stroke (due to his limited intelligence and vocabulary, his immediate family did not recognize his cognitive failure for three weeks!).

His ability to tote heavy concrete bags remains unimpeded. To paraphrase the old United Negro College Fund tagline "A strong back is a terrible thing to waste".

Candidates with the same last names, 2026

Updated October 18, 2026. According to Ballotpedia's analysis, 28 states had at least one 2026 race between candidates that share the same last name.Read more

and this:

In 2024, Washington’s Democratic state Attorney General Bob Ferguson was joined in the gubernatorial primary race by two other Democratic hopefuls with the same name.

Was it a coincidence? More like an age-old election trick that’s come up again in this year’s tightly contested Alaska U.S. Senate race.
In Washington two years ago, a Republican activist had paid the other two Bob Fergusons to run in the hopes that their names on the ballot would confuse voters — an effort to weaken the attorney general’s candidacy. But the decoys ultimately dropped out after just a few days when the first Bob Ferguson, who went on to be elected governor, threatened legal action and publicly derided their candidacy as an “attack on our democracy."
But there’s a long history of political operatives from both parties deploying the tactic — and largely getting away with it. “It’s a time-honored tradition,” said Thomas Kahn, director of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University.
“It’s not a good practice,” Kahn added, but “if trying to confuse voters was a crime, then every politician would be in jail.”

The plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.
Is what they did illegal? Of course not.

Will what they did change the election outcome? No. Alaska has ranked choice voting, so no matter what order you vote for the Sullivans the votes will count the same.

Is it a dirty trick? Yes, but remember the Republicans poured money into the coffers of the Democrats who were running against Peltola in the primaries. Same kind of dirty trick. But much more likely to influence the election.

It's amusing that the Republicans are complaining about political hardball after the ridiculous mid-decade gerrymandering, the hundreds of millions of dollars vomited out by Elon Musk et. al., the sleazy AI adverts, the repugnant rumour-mongering (no, James Talarico isn't a vegan and no, he wasn't admitted to a mental asylum) and, of course, the paedophile-defenders involved in Ramaswamy's scandalous Ohio campaign advertisement.

I didn’t say it was illegal. I dont know if it’s illegal or not, and I have no idea how it will impact the Alaska senate race. The title of this thread is “electoral shenanigans begin in the midterms.” I believe the NYT report fits squarely in the category.

Vance is a lying piece of shit.

How the fuck is this Muppet our VP?

Vice President JD Vance says the Justice Department will investigate after a mother told him her 11-year-old received a letter encouraging the child to transition.

Vance condemned whoever sent it, calling the person “a pervert who deserves a prison sentence.”

Interestingly, in some Asian countries, doctors are required to learn English so they can treat foreigners who don't speak the local language.
It is literally impossible to imagine anything analogous to that in the United States, where people get tied in knots about having to even listen for the option to speak Spanish (one of the easiest foreign languages for an Anglophone to learn, incidentally).

🙄

BabyBoozer (a POS MAGAt) is too inebriated to realize that everyone is on to their gaslighting bullshit: “I didn’t say it was illegal. I dont know if it’s illegal or not, and I have no idea how it will impact the Alaska senate race”…

BabyBoozer is "Just sayin'"…

"No gaslighting agenda whatsoever" from BabyBoozer…

You’re bothered that I flagged electoral shenanigans by your tribe. Excellent.

Gotta love the brief the DOJ submitted to the Federal judge five minutes before closing for the weekend today.

"Labelling Daniel Sullivan as 'incumbent' is an insufficient remedy. Most Alaskans are likely not aware of what the word "incumbent" means.....

Does anyone actually believe it happened?

If it were true she'd be waving the letter to the press and the police. It's always 'someone else saw, someone else heard, someone else thinks'.

There's never any pics of Bobby coming home as Bobbie. It would be hard to imagine a parent not documenting the transformation.
