I recently submitted a story and when it got published it wasn't what I had submitted. It was in German, which I don't know. But, using an online translator, I saw that it was nothing like what I had submitted. I don't know if this is the right board to ask for help.

I already sent an e-mail, but I was curious if there was anything i could immediately do to fix this. I don't have a copy of the story I submitted anywhere.

You'll have to contact the editor, Laurel, directly by Private Message (PM)--if you go up to the awards threads, you see posting by her and if you click on her name you will be given the link to send her PM.

and/or

You can just resubmit your story as you want it, with "Edit" added to the end of the title in the title block and a note put in the "note" block to explain what's wrong.

Thanks. I was freaking out a little and really just needed to be reassured. The problem is that I don't have any other copy of the story. I guess, if it comes to that, I can just rewrite it.

Sorry, if you submitted it to begin with, you sorta should have some idea where you typed in the title. Maybe someone else has the time and inclination to hold your hand through a process you've already been through.

And not having a copy of the story is kind of something to learn from. I hope you didn't just compose it in the submission window, because stories really should be polished up before they are submitted if you don't want to have them dumped on here (maybe the switched story was a blessing in disguise for you).

Just repeat the submission process, and in the notes section tell Laurel that you think your previous submission ended up in a different language (I didn't know this could happen, but Laurel is very helpful and understanding).

Lacking all else, just PM Laurel (there is only one) .

Actually, I took the time to a) stand up for someone who just didn't understand, for whatever reason and b) to pull you up on unpleasant behaviour. The fact that you helped at first does not - in any way - excuse you from being a twat further down in the thread. I love how you've come back to make excuses for yourself but not to actually apologise for it.

So if that's backbiting...then yes, that's what I've done. I don't have a problem with it.

I will agree that SR's post was a bit harsh, but then I have on occasion been misunderstood myself. I think Lit is a much richer environment with SR in it than without.

SR is alright by me.

And no, SR is not currently editing any of my stories, I edit my own, just in case one might like to extrapolate.

The "said" thread seems to be going OK . . . so far.

And most of them would be fine if folks realized that (A) different markets have different requirements/expectations, (B) nothing in creative writing is laid in stone, (C) that the various publishing markets do have authorities they use for editing, and that (D) having just "found" creative writing doesn't really make you more knowledgable in the field than someone who's been at it for twice the number of years you've lived--and, no, posting on the Internet doesn't "equalize" expertise.

In the "stroppy" case the requester is exhibiting some zaniness and "do it for me" behavior. I provided the initial help for someone who is going to work at helping themselves. Asking how to get to places they'd already been is a signal of something that isn't going to work here or in publishing markets. It's time for some "put some of your own effort into it." This isn't a babysitters. And, again, Firebrain offered no help whatsoever--only backbiting (because obviously Firebrain doesn't give a fig for the original poster--she's just hurt that I rained on her friend's "I'm such a brilliant writer" parade eons ago.)

Your profile (at least until you change it) reveals (A) that I've been at this twice as along as you've been alive, (B) by your own admission you are intolerant and impatient, and (C) you don't have nearly enough experience in writing erotica yourself to be telling others how they should be doing it--and to be ragging on those who do have the experience.

Oh, please do shout about it--because you have no idea what my credentials are (or anyone else's here).

(Although I'm pretty sure that there really aren't any writers here with more experience than I have--in either writing or editing. And I have a lot more supportable reason for thinking so than you have for thinking otherwise. I certainly know you ain't got the chops--which is what is relevant here, even though you'll throw flak up in the air about it.)

I didn't mean for anything to become as confrontational and would be very thankful if the matter would be laid to rest.

I stumbled across the thread by accident, but had to respond as I am the "such a brilliant writer" traduced by sr71plt (or should I call you sr, I feel I know you so well!). First of all, I have never claimed any such thing, as you know very well. Secondly, you seem to be a naturally rude and ungracious man. Thirdly, your much-vaunted, nay much-trumpeted expertise in the publishing market doesn't seem to have done you much good when all you can do with it is to lay down "sr71plt's Law" (have you thought of TM-ing this, it's so euphonious?) to the manifestly uninterested.

I would suggest that there is a life out there in which you are not participating.
