I've found in life, it helps to appear far less intelligent than you actually are. It can be an advantage, when the suits first impression, is just of a hick.modest mouse said:
The Heretic said:I think of myself as slightly above average intelligence, about average with regards to education (I have two 2 year degrees) - but wiser than most people. I know a lot of people who have a lot more education than I do, I know quite a number that are demonstratably more intelligent, but most people I know are not as wise.
That may sound like bragging (my comments on my wisdom), and maybe it is - but that is the way I view myself.
You may be correct - at least for most people, and more so with regards to people thinking they are more wise than they really are. However, the way I gauge my wisdom is by whether I am consistent, rational and self-aware. Most people believe themselves to be right about many issues and therefore believe themselves to be wise - but most people don't know why they are right or wrong, they just feel they are.modest mouse said:Dillinger, interesting point about wisdom. But I think assesing one's own wisdom is far more difficult than gauging one's own opinion of one's own education or intelligence. (The construction of the previous sentence was enjoyable)
I was using the criteria that the average level of education in the USA seems to be somewhere between 1-4 years of college education, maybe even less.perky_baby said:that's so funny, I have two, two year degrees too, and I feel undereducated.
Perspective is such a weird thing.

I do feel undereducated, but I think it is just the company I keep. Most of the people I work with have at least a 4 year degree, many have their masters or even a PHD, and both my brothers have 4 year degrees. However, I think those levels of education are somewhat above average overall.
