I need some help please. I have a pic thread and i wanted to be creative, like make some pics black and white, with a few color details. I can do the black and white, but i can't figure out how to do the color details. Can anyone help me with it..PLEASE....

What program are you using to edit your pictures? Each program works a bit differently and what can be done easily in one is a real pain in another.

One thing that will work in many photo editing programs is to select the areas you want in B/W so that when you click on convert to B/W only selected area is affected.

I have basic paint and Corel Paint Shop Pro X. But i don't think either of them has a thing where you can do it like that...

ok..since no one else seems to know how to do that...does anyone know the best downloadable program to use?

Most of the graphics and imaging programs like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop have steep learning curves for the occasional user. In my digital imaging courses we use a product called StudioLine Basic. It is a free download from here and it is awesome for the types of activities you are talking about and a no-brainer to use.
Download it and enjoy. :nana:

wish i could help you but iv only just learnt to put the battries in the right way up in my camera! Love you pics by the way :rose:

Scads of tutorials here.

And...

6 Mb manual here.

It really is worth the effort. :)

Sunshine,

More than likely you can, although I don't use these programs. You may just want to peruse the help files for terms such as "effects," "duotone," etc.

I looked and tried myself in StudioLine, but couldn't find an option to colorize specific areas only. Perhaps Kitedemon can let us both know which tool to use, because it IS a good, user-friendly program.

I googled "paintshop pro colorize areas" though, and believe these are the instructions you're looking for. It was one of the first sites in the search results, but it looks like there are lots of good instructions for this, so try the search if those instructions are too complex (they really don't look like it though) or not what you're looking for. :)

I'd like to see the result...maybe you'd be willing to attach it here when you're done fixing it up?

Ok, after lloking for the instructions kitedemon posted, i still can't figure it out..but the instructions SweetErika posted almost helped...i just can't figure out how to do some of it..but thanks anyways...

Can you tell us what you're getting stuck on? Even attach the pic and let us know specifically what you're trying to do? I'm betting someone here will know how to do it or can simplify the PSP instructions for you. I'll give it my best shot at least. :)

well, the pic i was trying to do i had to delete...so i was just trying it on a random pic on my computer for now until i could figure out how to do it..lol. On those instructions you posted, i am getting stuck on the part under "method two"...i can't figure out how to "Zoom in and carefully trace around the edge of the Shirt, clicking frequently to add points to the selection, allowing the selection to follow any curved edges." as it says...lol.

This program does what you want I believe: http://www.vicman.net/vcwphoto/index.htm

Open the image. FILE>OPEN>Select your image (I saved your AV to my desktop)
You'll get a preview window. Your AV was small, so I pressed the + button on the bottom of the window until it turned into a size I could easily work with.

To make it Black & White:
1) Menu: EFFECTS>COLOR>SATURATION, BRIGHTNESS, CONTRAST
2) Slide the SATURATION bar to the left until you're happy with how b&w it is. You can play with the other ones if it's too dark, etc.

To fill in color:
1) Click the left paint bucket, and select the color you want from the color box.
2) Click the paintbrush tool (if you mouse-over, it'll tell you the name of the tools), in Row 1, Col. 2 of the toolbar
3) You should see an OPTIONS window on your screen. Those are the options for your brush. I used the ROUND icon, NORMAL type, and 20% OPACITY for your AV. If you move the size up and down, you should see the brush size change. I started with big (like 21), filled in the middle of the nightie, and then went progressively smaller to do the edges.
4) Start filling in. If you don't like it, you can go EDIT>UNDO, or CTRL Z to undo several steps.

When you're happy, go to FILE>SAVE AS, and rename.

As you get more comfortable, you can play with the other tools. The best way to learn is to play around, but this program also has a good help file.

Attached is the result. I did it in a few minutes, so it's not the greatest work, but it sounds similar to what you're looking for.

Bump.....ok, i tried that program, its what i want to do, but not how i want it done....i can't seem to get it to color in right....oh well, if no one knows of a prgram that don't do it, then i will just give up..thanks though.

Paint Shop Pro is easy to use, I also use Photoshop.

well, what i want to do exactly is take a picture in black and white and make some of it in color.

In PSP I use "Filters Unlimited" which is a downloadable filter program (It is also available for Photoshop) open the image, go to "Filters" go to "Filters Unlimited" Go to "Color Effects" Click on "Greyscale" ... this makes the image black and white.
Then select the freehand tool and draw around the area of the pic that you want to color ... once it is selected go to "Filters Unlimited" again "Color Effects" and select either "Colorize RGB" or whichever one you want, depending on what color you want. Save the image and you are done.
