I watched Tim Burton's Ed Wood again a couple days ago and I am still amazed at what a great flick it is. It may just have been Depps performance but he makes Wood to be a genuinely likable, decent guy who just loved the movies.

It got me thinking though. We make fun of Wood and the stuff he did a lot but the world of filmmaking owes the man a great debt. Everyone who ever self financed a movie without help from the major studios from Tarantino to Moore to Kevin Smith all probably wouldn't have thought that making films would be possible if it weren't for Wood and guys like him working so hard to finance their own stuff.

Sure his movies are B grade schlock but they were made by a guy who loved making movies and inspired a whole bunch of generations to get movies made that big studios wouldn't touch.

Is Plan 9 the worst movie of all time? Not even close. It's one of the 10 best :)
