I'm sure in the day or so that I didn't post someone spoke about the Supreme Courts decision in the medical marijuana issue but there were thoughts of mine that I wanted to share.

I'm the last guy to defend Clarence Thomas on most things but the way he got jumped on bothered me. His ruling stated that the current law states that there is no recognition that Marijuana has medicinal purposes. He was dead right about that. No ifs, ands or buts. Yet in the article at Salon that I read the writer tried to frame it as if Thomas said those words himself. That Thomas feels that Pot doesn't help the author with his Chemo. The reason that the fallout over this decision bothers me is that people miss the bigger picture. Americans need the Court to uphold the law. Analyze and interpret the law. Not create it. Not strike down the parts that they have moral disagreements with. With a Republican majority on the bench it is crucial that they don't decide which laws they like and which they don't. It is crucial to Roe v. Wade and other important laws on the books that the Republicans on the bench don't become activists.

I disagree with the law but not the ruling. Yazikes

Thanks.

Don't get me wrong, I still think most Republicans have their heads up their respective asses when it comes to Drug laws but this is one case where the Court did right.

Legalize it don't criticize it
Legalize it and I will advertise it
Some call it tampee
Some call it the weed
Some call it Marijuana
Some of them call it Ganja

(Repeat chorus)

Singers smoke it
And players of instruments too
Legalize it, yeah, yeah
That's the best thing you can do
Doctors smoke it
Nurses smoke it
Judges smoke it
Even the laywers too

(Repeat chorus)

It's good for the flu
It's good for asthma
Good for tuberculosis
Even umara composis

(Repeat chorus)

Birds eat it
And they love it
Fowls eat it
Goats love to play with it

You know this website really sucks ass since all those really big important super-smart people left, and made those really mega-impressive speeches about why they were leaving and how this site really bummed them out, with all the accompanying undertones of how they would be sorely missed and how much the regretted leaving, but they had to do it because everything was just going to hell in a handbasket, and hey how would the rest of us ever survive without them?

:p

As long as we have our greatest voice of reason, Gnufi Poppets, around, then the board will survive. :D

That is what I have been saying all along.

Gnufi is the light.

Oh wait. I just puffed on my bubbler too much and am seeing things.

No, No I see it... and it's Gnufi.
I am not that stoned.

Seriously though, I have a lot of question about what the point was behind the ruling if all they were going to go on was the current law.
Shit, I think they wasted our money sitting up there all week deciding something that was decided a long ass time ago, if they weren't going to take the results of the
Presidetially appointed panel of doctors who researched the medical benifits and indeed concluded that there were in fact many valid and necessacary medical uses, with less than average side effects and risks, into strong consideration.

Why was that all thrown out like it didn't mean shit?

Anyway, I personally think the whole medical pot issue is an irrelivent matter.

Marinol is widely prescribed and used by chemo patients, LEGALLY, and is as effective as blowing a joint. Besides, getting a bag is easier than some Star Wars toys. I mean, why the fuck do you need a prescription? So you can show your friends...

"Look! Doc says it's okay to be toking on this here reefer, even though alls I did was break my toe!"

I see far greater importance in the Ecological benifits the plant has to offer us.

Consider this:

Paper production. Saves trees when Hemp is used in acombination of cotton and wood pulp blends.
More Trees= Less CO2 from our cars and homes

Fabric.... I see a distinct need for a reduction in the use of pesticides in the Agricultural industry. So do most farmers, consumers and plant producers (we namely want it, because pests become increasingly resistant to insecticides.)
That is why we are pushing for resistance in crops through genetic manipulation. However, the Cotton industry is a heavy pesticide use industry (thanks to those Evil Boll Weevils ;) ) and the inclusion of hemp growing by 1/4 , to be combined with cotton for fabric, would greatly reduce the amount of pesticides used in the textile industry.

There is so much more to it, but I just wish that this nation of people would all move along to a higher level of awarness about marijuana's benifits, and have our Federal laws reflect that which the people see need for.

Now, pass that over here. :)
